Hi there,

The problem with the longer Graphic cards on this board is that they do cover the SATA ports. I have a Sapphire 4850X2 and when I installed it on this board, it caused all kinds of grief. Even using SATA cables with a Right Angle Head put too much pressure over the SATA Sockets when I tried to install the Graphics card. I did manage it but it is not something I would recommend as it could quite easily cause some severe damage to that area of the Mobo.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Hi thanks for the fast response, how many sata ports did it cover i think the hd 5870 is about 11.5" long :o

With my Card there is an aluminium shroud covering covering one side of the card and with that in place it covered 3 of them and really only left the two nearest the bottom of the board easily accessible.

Sorry to be a pain but just had another look and it looks like with a 90 sata in that wouldnt come up as high as the sbridge but as you have the same board it obvisouly does lol maybe you can get really shallow 90 ones.

It's deceptive, when I used 90 degree cables I really had to use a lot of pressure (not advisable) to get my card to sit properly.

By the way, I don't run this board any longer and switched to an ATX ( the GA-790XTA-UD4) Mobo to avoid these kind of issues.

Well it's a tough choice and as either is a better card than mine I would say go for the shorter of the two as it will give you less problems when it comes to installing it. as it's not just issues with the motherboard that you have to consider but also the size of the chassis.

One rather large Graphics Card led to me rebuilding my whole system!  :D (well, that's what I told the wife!)

Well, I hope your wife isn't as scary as mine she's got a black belt in origami. I knew I shouldn't have married a Japanese lass! :-X

If I can come over to the light side for a minute....dons shades and sunblock.

If it is any help even the 5830 is a decent card as it is still 256 bit whereas anything lower than that is only 128 bit and does take a big performance hit. If you can fit the 5850 that is the sweetpoint for bang per buck but it depends on size as always. 8)
