GA-P55A-UD3: Getting a random noise
« on: October 15, 2010, 03:40:13 am »
Ok I keep getting a random fast buzzing noise coming from my computer that I can't find the source of. It only last for a split second and it comes at random intervals. It may be anywhere from 2 seconds apart to an hour. I have an audio recording of the sound it is making. Does anybody know what could be causing this? I have tried disabling C1E and EIST and the noise continued.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.
I tried downloading your audio file but it kept stopping halfway so I gave up. What I would suggest is to get a piece of cardboard or plastic pipe and hold it to your ear and then use it to try and locate the sounds origin in the computer. Then post back.

I have uploaded the file to a new location. This one should be more reliable. ---> http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AAA882U4

I would try to find the sound, but it is so random and last for such a short time I don't think I would be able to find it. It is not a constant buzz.

Well it is certainly a weird noise. Sounds sort of metallic maybe a hard drive fault?
Have you got a disk in your optical drive?
Failing that maybe a fan. It definitely sounds as if it's coming from something spinning to me.
I think you need to try and eliminate any possible causes by removing power from them and see if it stops.

I have ruled out the HDD and my SSD drive by disconnecting them. I never noticed the noise until I installed the SSD drive, but they may have been because of my noisy Caviar Black HDD. Also right before I installed my SSD drive I updated my bios to F11 because of the SMART bug. Could this noise be coming from the system speaker? Also ignore the clicking sound after the beeping sound. That was me clicking the mouse.

Well you can soon disconnect the system speaker to check that.

That is where the sound is coming from. I disconnected it and have not heard the sound all day. Now the question is why?

Try doing a search on the forum as I remember there were some other people with odd beeps etc occuring at random intervals.

Unless you resolved it already, try and disable C3/C6 state in Bios. That could work, as reported on other forums.

Yah I posted it in the other thread, but forgot about this one. The solution was to turn off the temp alarms for my processor. The i5 has a tendency to sound false temp alarms, which was causing the system speaker to chirp.
