GV-N460OC - 1GB - 3Dmark05 score and AMD overdrive??
« on: October 25, 2010, 05:33:20 pm »
Gents,

i have recently upgraded from my now dead 8800GS to a GTX460OC, as a performance test with 3Dmark05 i got 13041 marks - this seems awfully low as i am sure my 8800GS got something very similar...

so, i am wondering if i have an issue here, not with the GTX but possibly with my motherboard??? I say this because i have never managed to get the AMD overdrive working with this rig - any change or autotune hangs the PC

specs as follows

OS----Windows 7 ultimate
MB----GA-MA770-DS3
CPU---AMD Phenom Quad 9550 @ 2.2Ghz
BIOS Version---Award modular BIOS v6.00PG
RAM----4gb
PSU----Enermax EG495AX
Sound----on board
DX 11 enabled

Any ideas or input appreciatedjavascript:void(0);

A.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.
The first thing that strikes me is the fact that you are using a low powered PSU and how old is it? As far as I know it hasn't been available for a couple of years. As PSUs age they become less efficient and the power drops.

AMD Overdrive not working isn't something to be bothered by. It's a very problematic tool.

I'll agree with Dark Mantis on the PSU issue. One other thing that is almost certainly limiting your new GPU is your CPU's frequency.

Considering your CPU's clock you should see a rather substantial  increase in performance with every 100Mhz more on the processor. The problem being that the 9550 won't overclock a whole lot.

The CPU bottleneck issue depends on your screen's resolution. Though 2.2Ghz is likely too low, anyway.
