I do appreciate all the help I get here you guys are the best!!  I have two case fans that are on direct ps  but the cpu and hdd fans are on MB is this ok you think...also how long should i monitor cpu for besides a now and again check at least for the first time I change settings?

Absic thx for help...I have onboard sound disabled in bios...I will try floppy disable and will try buffers again but Steinberg/Yamaha seems to believe that the FW Mr816csx needs a dedicated irq which even if i get a separate card im not sure I can set a dedicated irq for on this MB.  Ive tried DPC latency but get no spikes to speak of when I experience dropouts.....I try latencyMon  but cant pinpoint problem other that pagefaults with usbport.sys...ill try speed step and such and get back to you guys.

Firstly have you disabled the USB3 ports as I suggested?

Secondly you would need to move you CPU fan especially to a direct connection with the PSU. Just run a few programs or something like Prime95 and make sure the temps are ok If they are fine for an hour they should be ok during normal use.

im not sure about speedstep and such I really dont want to change that...I guess Ill try a pci card and hope I can get it on a dedicated irq.

HaHa ;D
Obviously you cannot use the USB3.0 ports if you disable them in the BIOS. ;) Clear the USB3.0 ports first and then disable them.

Misunderstanding ...I cleared the usb 2.0 ports by placing my usb components on the usb 3.0 ports ...then I disabled the usb 2.0 ports after making sure nothing was on them. And when I went to restart ...BSOD!  Well anyway i ordered a pci 1394 card and when it comes I hope I can get it on a dedicated IRQ.   Thanks much

Update..... Well didnt make out so good.  I got the new PCI 1394 card no matter what I did I couldnt get it on a separate IRQ!  I disabled both Lan's and such but it stayed on IRQ 16 ...which is shared by like 8 other items including the Vid card.  I only have one PCI slot as you know ....I called Gigabyte and they helped me try to arrange but to no avail.  I was told that it is a hardware setup and cannot be changed.  I tried to call Microsoft to find if there was any way to change in win 7 but I have oem and would have to pay 60 bucks for their help ???  Any ideas?  Also Do you think the UD3r or another board would allow for the ability to put a addon card to a dedicated irq or is this with every new design with the new Win 7 archietecture...and not the hardware of the manufacturer?

It's just I wasn't sure which region you were in so maybe you would change your Profile details to show USA please.

I think this is one time where a question to GGTS is called for as I am not sure if you had more than one PCI slot it would help with the IRQ situation. Sorry. :-\  I will also try and find out tomorrow locally.

I am afraid that we don't have that information to hand locally so you will have to take the question to GGTS and they should be able to provide an answer. :-\

As far as I can see the UD3R is very similar so I doubt it would be any different. I still can't see sharing IRQ's as being a problem but anything is possible. Is the software you are using 100% compatible with windows 7 64 bit? Do you have the very latest versions installed?

Bill:

Im told that Cubase 5 is completely compatible with win 7 and yes all drivers are up to date.... I called Yamaha support and told them I wasnt able to get the card on a dedicated IRQ  I am waiting to hear back from them for either an exchange or refund for this audio interface.  I believe this issue I am having is there for lots of people and I need to prove I did everything I could to make this interface work.  It is the norm today to point fingers at each other if a driver ie is causing a problem....leaving it up to the consumer to try and figure things out.  Fact is its been that way for a while.  I really appreciate the help I received here from all you folks......Ill let you guys know how this finally gets resolved!!!

Thanks Gejodi. As you say it's a pass the buck attitude that makes it very difficult to pin down the problem. The more information we can gather the better off we all are. ;)

You can try adjusting some IRQ's in the BIOS by using the hotkey.

To use the hidden setting hotkey, on the MAIN page of the BIOS press" Control + F1" then the screen will flash.

Then look for a hidden PCI IRQ Setting, I know it used to have it's own page on older P35/P45 models, but not sure if it's even included on the new models or not.

Worth a look though, when I next reboot I'll see if I can find it on my UD7
