« on: October 30, 2010, 05:46:02 am »
ive just got a new card for my pc ati 5870 and when i try to watch any ytube or anything on media center i get like a flashing or flicking over the bottom half up to sometimes the whole screen and sometimes its worse if i move the mouse but it will do it even if i dont like what i am watching with lines running threw it..

i have tryed a format and after reading as many forums i can find disabling things in ccc and refresh rates and such but nothing has helped it was working fine up till i put my new card in but i did notice the new 10.10 drivers had just come out also and another thing i noticed its only happening on my second screen but i can be watching on eather one for it to happen any help would be wonderful its driving me mad trying to fix it

i played world of warcraft for a few hours and also put the mc on with the tv playing on it and i didnt see the flickering or flashing at all but 2 times when the game was loading a dungeon but as soon as i turned the game off it was at it again just as bad

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

There are a couple of things to try, firstly check for latency problems using dpc latency checker downloadable from here:

DPC Latency Checker    http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml

Secondly load the new drivers as the presetn ones are known to be problematic. The 10.9 drivers have caused some people no end of problems and they have had to revert back to older versions.

Thirdly try checking the cable to the second monitor or even changing it if possible.

No problem with posting the link as long as it is to explain your problem. I would say it is a driver problem after looking at the screen effect but if you are already running the latest there is only one way to go and that is backwards. Try 10.8 or before but not 10.9.

Hi there,

sorry to throw a spanner in the works but I have just updated the drivers for my Sapphire 4850X2 to the ATI 10.10 drivers, and can't replicate your problem at all. I am running 3 monitors 2 LG L194WT-SF and 1 LG L1715S.

I have tried using Windows Media Player, ITunes, Media Centre, VLC Player and all of them are playing perfectly in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit.

What software are you running?
Does the problem occur when you are watching videos stored on your Hard drive or from a TV or Video Stream via the Internet?
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Try disabling the power saving modes in the BIOS and see if that makes any difference. Often these settings can cause problems similar to what you are describing.

It sounds like the the GPU clock speed issue some people are having with the 5000 series cards. The HD 5670 in my HTPC had the same problem playing some video sources. What seems to be happening is the clocks are not being increased like they should when playing video. I fixed this problem by creating a custom profile in CCC. To do this you need to enable Overdrive and then save a new profile but do not enable it yet, example name "Video". Then find and edit the 2d clocks in the new profile using notepad. Example Video.xml. It should be located in C:\Users\"you"\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles. Once done choose the profile and set it as the default profile. This is going from memory so the procedure may not bo 100% accurate. See screen shot below. Note using this workaround will raise GPU temps and power draw when in 2d mode.

tryed both the bios and the ati edit with no change think im going to format and reinstall drivers and wait for a another driver to come out and cross my fingers that helps ... but when i was looking in the bios i did find my cpu was over heating and was hopping this might be the problem but i resat the heat sync with no change ....
format done and with just the windows driver installed the same problem cat 10.8 same problem

When you said that your CPU was overheating what temperature was it?

Also how long did you run the latency checker for?
Did you leave it running when you were having the problem?

You didn't answer my question exactly.

Did you leave it running when you were having the problem?

It could be that the hard drive has something to do with the problem as that would explain why it happens when you are accessing the drive for another level.

Also did you clean off the old thermal paste and renew it when you reseated the heatsink?

Right then so you do have a latency problem. Leave it running for a while and try all sorts of things that you would, normally do and keep an eye on when you get the high bars.
