SLi for AM3/890FX Chipset

I would really like to use a Gigabyte Board either the 890 UD5 or UD7 but together with Nvidea cards in SLI but it appears that Intel only support this. Wh? Surely there are millions of people like me who want to use AMD but are then forced to go with AMD Graphics in crossfire or change to an Intel CPU. Really smacks of some sort of Intel prefererential treatment.

I feel for you a bit, since when I was building my computer I did not realize this at first and had picked a 460 due to price point.  After reading more about crossfire/sli, I then had a decision: go Intel or stay with AMD.

I chose AMD, but this was not a bad thing since in general I have read ATI cards a better.  Anyways, I believe there are a couple boards out there that support both SLI and Crossfire, just look.

Personally, having tried both NVidia in SLI and ATI in Crossfire I have to say that ATI comes out on top. Of course that is a purely personal choice but there are a lot less issues if you run ATI cards.

And even from someone on the Intel side I would agree that I would rather run ATI crossfire than nVidia SLI.

Following AMD merger with ATI--that deal caused Nvidia to rethink its go-to-market strategy. Nvidia used to build chip sets completely top to bottom for every AMD microprocessor. When AMD bought ATI, it became a less logical decision to make. Nvidia decided that it would change its strategy from investing on AMD chip sets top to bottom to focusing on the Intel platform.

Regarding the Intel platform, Nvidia is claiming that Intel is not providing chipset licenses to achieve monopoly and is therefore hurting Nvidia's chipset for desktop and laptop markets. Nvidia has decided not to settle with Intel and that the case will go to court.
