How to re-assign "smart button" on T1005M

How to re-assign "smart button" on T1005M
« on: December 03, 2010, 07:28:37 pm »
I have a Gigabyte T1005M running Windows 7 Ultimate. There's a single button on the bezel (called the "Smart Button" in the documentation) that brings up Gigabyte's Smart Manager utility. Is there any way to assign this key to do a different function?

If I don't run Smart Manager, then the key does nothing. It doesn't get detected as a Tablet Button, it doesn't generate a keyboard scan code, etc. There are so many other things I'd prefer to do with this button, as it's the only button on the bezel. (It's easy enough to launch Smart Manager from the taskbar.) I'd love to be able to run AutoHotKey or the like and customize its action based on the current application.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.
I assume that no one on hte forum know the answer to your question so I thought I would advise you to try asking GGTS the technical support side of Gigabyte. You can contact them here:

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, tech support had no suggestions. I also asked if they could tell me how to programmatically detect button presses so I could write my own replacement to SmartManager, and they said it was proprietary. It's too bad - I would think that having after-market solutions that enhance the functionality of their tablet would improve their sales.

I knew posting here was a long shot, but since the answer is probably the same as for the T1000 and T1028 series, I figured it was worth a shot.

With the button presses there is an option to use hacking software that logs keystrokes. The software is readilly avialable and I think if you do a google search for "keylogger" you should find what you need. ;)

Thanks for the suggestion, but as I said in my original message, the button doesn't generate a keyboard scan code. Using a program that hooks all keyboard activity was one of the first things I tried.  :(
