CPU cooler in SG-06 case on H55N-USB3 mobo
« on: March 09, 2011, 12:48:50 pm »
I've been using my h55n-usb3 mobo for a few months and it's running smoothly, but...

the stock cooler for the i5 cpu is not doing the job in my small mini-itx case (silverstone sg-06). I'm trying to find a new cooler for it but the dimensions are the problem because i also have to take my corsair xms3 2x2gb dominator mem-modules into account (2.25 inches/54mm high).

Does anybody have any experience with this setup or could maybe advise me on a cpu cooler?

(gpu is 8800gt oc, storage is ssd ocz vertex II)

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I would suggest that you take a few measurements of the clearance around the CPU so that you know what the maximum heatsink/fan size is that your case can take. You will then find it easier to decide on your choices that are available.

That's what I already did, but manufacturers don't give any measurements of the height distance between the mobo and the beginning of the cooler... For example the zalman CNPS8700 NT, I cant find out where the first bulking from the cpu up begins and therefore can't figure out if it starts above my mem modules or not..

Therefor the question if anyone already has some experience :-) I don't want to order 5 coolers just for trying..

Fair enough. I know what you mean about it being hard to get technical specs for a lot of these components. I don't know why they are not more readilly available as it would make life a lot easier. ???

Maybe go with Corsair H50? Found this blog when I googled your case and take a look at this:

Though if you have an optical drive installed you'd have to drill new mounting holes for the H50 radiator:

It's not a huge modification, really.

Hmmmm that H50 would be a good option indeed, a nice small cooler and not too expensive.

Thanks for the tip! =D

If you are going to use the H50 or even the H70 I would advise putting some cable ties or something similar around the ends of the pipes to make sure they stay firmly fixed especially in a tight situation.
