Booting issue on my X58A-UD3R

Gday guys,

recently a proud owner of this new motherboard. It was my first time building a computer also :)

I have had this issue since building it (3daysago) and its best described in this thread
http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,3266.0.html

Basicly when i press the power button, everything lights up for about 2 seconds (fan runs ect) then it powers down, then boots up again after about 2 seconds of waiting. This doesnt really affect me, i just know its not normal and would like to fix it.

Specs:

CoolerMaster Xtreme 700w PSU
i7 950 @ stock clocks
Corsair 3x2GB C9 Ram   ---> in slots 2,4,6   because my Heatsink covers most of slot 1
460GTX Gigabyte
X58A-UD3R Gigabyte Motherboard
1TB Samsung Spinpoint HDD
LG CD-RW Drive

I am fairly newb at computers so use dumbed down terminology thanks. :)

Well congratulations on your first computer build and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

This "problem" is fairly widespread and happens for various reasons some of which are hard to pin down. The first thing I would say is not to worry about it as it is not detrimental to the system as far as I have been able to determine.

Sometimes it is caused by the PSU especially if it uses mult 12V rails because when the system first starts the current draw is at it's maximum and so if there is any weak point it will fail momentarily before restarting.

thanks for the reply!

Ive recently read this only occurs after you have PSU switch turned off then turned back on. I believe its called "Cold Boot."

All times i have started it up its from cold because id take the computer and put it on a table and isntall extra parts i get in the mail from day to day so its been running off cold boots. I dont mind now because it deostn do it on normal boots

It is sometimes caused by power especially if you use 12V rails mult because when the system boots first input current is at its maximum and if there is a weakness, it will fail before a time restarting. I like to suggest that  not to worry about this because it is not detrimental to the system since it was able to determine.

Well I have a Corsair 650HX, which I think has a single 12v rail??

Anyway it worked fine with my EP45-UD3 and O/C Q9550 - I have the feeling that it has more to do with the Ram (psssibly Corsair) and how it interacts with the i7 on-chip memory controller. There seems to be a lot of posts around the hardware boards about this problem, but no definitive fix - I am hoping that a bios update may help, but I am not holding my breath!!
