Unlocking x2 550 on 890GPA-UD3h

Unlocking x2 550 on 890GPA-UD3h
« on: November 19, 2010, 06:31:37 pm »
Bios versions tested: FA, FB, FC, FD, FE, FGa(current)

Problem: I am trying to unlock my 550, I set the Core Unlock option to enabled and reboot. This is where the problem starts.

On some boots, it will unlock successfully into a X4 B50, but on most, it remains as an X2 550.

Any help?

Have you checked the quad-core for stability when it booted as one? It could be that the cores are faulty and even though it can boot into Windows it isn't stable enough to run properly.

Since I updated bios I had a few ( below 5 ) situations when my CPU booted as x3 ( 720 BE ) instead of an unlocked x4. Haven't experienced this for quite a while now, though. I have no idea why it happened as my cores are stable, at least at stock values. I mean, I have them overclocked to 3.5Ghz and they seem ok ( boots with stock values, though - overclock applied in Windows ).

6 hours of prime95 when unlocked, that seems stable to me.

I'm lost, then. It could be bios or something else. All that I can recommend at this point is checking the processor with a different motherboard. If the problem would still be there - it's the CPU.

That's how it is with computers. I'm having some problems myself and have several not so easy to check ideas of what may be causing them :'(.
