GA-MA770-UD3 (rev. 1.0): CPU query
« on: November 21, 2010, 11:32:04 pm »
Hi there

Im thinking of upgrading my current processor (AMD Athlon X2 7750+ Black Edition) to an AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition, but cannot find anywhere about your motherboards supporting this processor (including if I search for it on an AM3 socket board like GA-870A-UD3 (rev. 2.2))

I already know that I will have to update my BIOS (currently running version F5 on my board - see topic title for model) and cannot foresee any problems with doing that.
Nothing to see here, move along....

I would imagine it it just a case of waiting for the new BIOS updates to be written and released. Have you checked in other places like the HQ site in Taiwan? When you do find one make sure that you run the update before removing your old chip.

Thats was my thinking too, or have they forgotten to add it to the list of supported processors for F9G (which is the current latest BIOS version for my board)? Unless AMD have only just released this processor then I dont see why it would not be showing on either all or most gigabyte boards.

If you mean www.gigabyte.tw/ I have just been there now (thanks to google translate) and the CPU support list is exactly the same as the ones for the .com site

Hi there,

I don't know the answer but I have asked the question. When I have the answer I will post it here but it might take a couple of days so bear with me.

Hello.

Thankyou for doing that. At the moment Im currently toying with the idea of risking it by ordering one, updating the BIOS and when it arrives fit it.

Cool! What BIOS version are you using?

EDIT: Hmm, actually, make your mind up: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,3453.msg25647.html#msg25647 <-- that says youre running a Rev 2.0 of GA-MA770-UD3 and a 965 Phenom

I also asked about this on another forum. Found two board that support that CPU: GA-770TA-UD3 and GA-MA770T-UD3.

Interestingly, everything Im finding out about the processor says its 125W, yet the site where I would buy it from says its 140W  ???

I also have a rev 1.0 of that board and a 970. Would you like to see the receipt? I also have a six core 1090T and Crosshair IV. Should I put everything I own on here?

No, but a screenshot of CPUid of the CPU and the main board tabs would be nice, please: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

What I am interested in (for the second time) is what BIOS version you have but I want proof that it works in the board in this "rev 1.0" you "supposedly" have.

I also have a six core 1090T and Crosshair IV. Should I put everything I own on here?
I fail to see what part of this thread that relates to.

Sorry, but Im very wary of forum users that claim that they have this, that, and the other with no posts to support that claim.

Oh, come on, you're behaving like little kids. For the record, I'd ask for a screenshot myself. Being a little more polite, though...

Frankly, I'd get an 965 BE or 1055T instead but if you don't want to overclock I guess it's a good option.

It relates to this. You're assuming I'm lying so should I list all my hardware?

Probably cchaos does not think that you're lying just pointing out that you say you are running a 965 and wants some clarification. Investing in a 970 CPU only to discover that it won't run on the motherboard would be an expensive mistake to make.

Like you I have lots of different hardware that I mix and match, especially when I  am trying to troubleshoot for other users. I don't think anyone wants to see a list of all my hardware but they do like to see screenshots or have other "evidence" to validate what I am saying, when it is appropriate.

to cchaos:
I would also have to agree with this:
Frankly, I'd get an 965 BE or 1055T instead but if you don't want to overclock I guess it's a good option.
There really isn't a lot of headroom on the 970 when it comes to overclocking so unless you are planning on running it at stock you would be better off not hoping from too much more fom this CPU.
