How do I change font size when preparing a posting?
« on: November 23, 2010, 12:55:43 pm »
Yeh, how do I set up my postings so that the size of the text I see in the Reply box is bigger than it is now? I think it's only 10-pt at present and my eyesight isn't that good to be able to always see it properly.

I see that there's a Font Size button in the menu there, but as far as I can tell, if you use that, you need to set the font size for every single submission. What I'm after is a different and bigger default font size. I don't mind if the final posting in the forum is still at a lower pt size; it's just preparing my submissions that's a bit difficult. I've tried seeing what options there are in Profile but there doesn't appear to be anything there that'll address this problem.

Get better glasses Joe the same as the rest of us old fogies  ;)

I don't think that it is possible to change the text size apart from the text you are going to post as you have already noticed. The only other thing is to use a editor like notepad and then cut and paste it into the reply screen.

These are new glasses I'm wearing, actually.

Would it perhaps be possible for a change to be made in the way that the website works in this respect? I guess this request seems a bit self-indulgent but, as you've discovered, it's not all 'bright, young 20 and 30-yr olds, with 20-20 vision', who use this website.

I would suggest that is a matter that you should take up with the site Administrator runn3R and personally as another person who is visually challenged I think it is a good idea. Somehow though I don't expect to see any changes  ( pun intended) ;)

If you are really struggling to read the text on the website then, depending on which browser you are using, you can actually magnify the screen.
I am using Google Chrome & IE8 both of which allow for screen magnification when needed.

Something useful for all you old geezers that can't read the text without a magnifying glass!

Absic,

No, I don't have those facilities. There's a feature in Windows called Acessibility Options but I tried that a long time ago and it's rather 'over the top' as a solution. It unduly affects other websites.

It's only this website that gives me this problem.

What web browser are you using?

IE7. And no, I don't want to change to a different browser, even IE8.

As far as I can see, this is an issue concerning the design of this website. At the risk of sounding ungrateful, it's not for me or anyone else with the problem to make universal changes just to suit the designer of this particular website.

I can understand that having the text as small as 10-pt saves screen space for the website but, really, the font size - particularly when compiling in the Reply box - is so small that it's almost unreadable for some of us old 'uns.

True!

Just don't think there will be any immediate changes to the font size so was trying to find an easy solution.

Temporary solution (assuming you have a scroll buttoned mouse): hold ctrl and scroll the wheel. One of two things should happen; it will zoom in or zoom out.

To reset that, go to view and (I think) under zoom it will have the option to reset the zoom. Dont quite know where it is in IE as I hardly use that browser, but it defo exists.
Nothing to see here, move along....

Yes, I have a scrollwheel but it does nothing of the kind you've described. As I say, this problem is one that's been caused by the design of the website. Therefore, it's up to the designer of the website to correct it.
