Ok, is the new 1100T AMD any good?
« on: February 10, 2011, 02:24:14 am »
Hi all,

In the last couple of days our market here in the USA is being flooded with this new AMD chip:

AMD HDE00ZFBGRBOX Phenom II 1100T Black Edition Six Core Processor - 3.30GHz, 6MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s) FSB, Retail, Socket AM3

I am curious about what people here think about it.  Any comments, suggestions, advice, etc?

I have some questions already!

1. Is this chip's multiplier locked or unlocked?
2. How is the 1100T compared to the 1090T, 1055T. etc.?
3. What's a good price for it [presently 3 vendors are selling it for $199]?
4. Would you purchase one or wait for the Bullsh....whoops, I meant Bulldozer?
5. Are the reports of 4.3 GHz with this 1100T on air accurate?

Here's the specs:

Very subjective question and one that is really difficult to answer.

If you are just going to build a PC and use it then the 1100T is the fastest AMD processor out there and for that reason must be considered as good value.

If you want to play with overclocking and pushing a hex core then I would say probably not.
Yes it has an unlocked multiplier. Yes, in the right circumstances you can push it to over 4.2GHz on air but, and here's the rub, you can actually achieve the same speeds just as easily with the 1090T and, with a bit more of an effort, from the other hex core processors. So is it good value? In my opinion, if you don't want to overclock it's OK but a definite no if you want to tweak and push it. For that go for the 1090T if you want an easier life or, one of the locked multiplier ones if you like a challenge.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Absic,

Ok, thanks for the info.  I would have never guessed the 1090T would be a better choice for pushing and tweaking.  I am not sure why but the prices of the 1090T are also $199.

Seems kind of strange that some vendors are offering the 1100T at the same price.  I suppose you are right in saying the 1090T is a better overclocker.

Thanks, Absic!

Hi Soar,

The 1090T isn't a better overclocker just that it is essentially the same CPU as the 1100T and therefore, better value if you can get it cheaper. The 1100T has already had it's core speed upped from 3.2GHz to 3.3 GHz but the threshold for both processors is basically the same. That means the with the 1090T you are staring from a slightly lower point, speed wise but will have the same top speed as the 1100T.

Here in the UK there is about a £30 difference between the two CPU's and because the 1090T is cheaper it makes better sense to purchase that one if you want to overclock. Why waste money, hey? Unless of course, your name is Soar and you are rich!!!  ;) (only kidding)

Absic, you sure have a good way with words.  I like your word picture that described the difference between the 1100T and the 1090T " staring from a slightly lower point..."  That helps me understand it so well!

Thanks again Absic!

Typical American. Goes out side, catches a couple of furry rodents, sticks his feet into them and calls them shoes, that's why they're squeaking so much!  ;D

good question

but to add some

I got my 1055t at 3360 with stock voltage that is 1.37 (that's what it says in bios) and I've know that can bee push up to 4.2 with 1.47v IF you can get your MOBO stable, most people have it at 4.0 with 1.42v

Christoph,

Thanks for the info on your 1055T.  Mine ran so well at stock speeds and I never tried to OC it.  I hope to play with it a little once I get it up and running again.

Got into it late but i have the 1090T and i ran it at 4.425 for like 3 months before i turned it down. I turned it down for two reasons to make it last longer and number 2 because for some reason my video driver update would cause a blue screen.

I turned down processor to 3.6 and ram to 1333 and after video drivers installed i turned ram back up to 1600 ( not adviseable to most 1333 is much safer)  and turned processor to 3.8.

Now as for difference i didn't see alot of difference at 4.4 ( to keep it short)  than i did at 3.8.  I call it the sweet spot effect. Every processor i have ever had has a spot that no matter how high it goes it doesn't make a difference or very little difference. Thats the sweet spot and my 1090T is at 3.8 sweet spot. Actually 3.824.3 with a bounce to 3.824 at times. Ram is actually at 1610.8 and it all has to do with the fsb im sure i cant for the life of me keep it at 200 it fluctuates. Oh well isn't a perfect world i live with it...lol.

So while i cant tell you about the 1100T at least knowing what i know now id still buy the 1090t Because of the price savings.

Autotech,

Wow!  Incredibly clear information.  Thanks!  That 1090T is an excellent processor and I like how you found the "Sweet Spot" on that processor.  I too will look for the "Sweet Spot" on each of my processors too.

Thank you Soar. I haven't touched voltage from stock just multiplier. To be honest i have always upgraded to the latest and the best never knowing what exactly i was looking for. Well i know now what im looking for, a crash free experiance with all the speed loading programs and web pages i could want. Why i havent gotten a 1100T or a 6970.
