GA-P55A-UD3 RAM Question
« on: November 26, 2010, 10:08:15 pm »
I currently have THIS RAM and it's not cutting it for me considering that I get random BSOD often and had to manually set the timings/speed since it's not on the Support Memory list.

My question is if this triple channel memory will work well on my MoBo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224

Or would you guys recommend something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=20-231-314&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=2&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=%28keywords%29&Page=1#scrollFullInfo
Although this one is listen on my suggest Memory Support List.

Memory Support List: http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-p55a-ud3.pdf

Other recommendations appreciated.

-----------

I was recommended to get this and O.C. it to 1600MHz at 7-7-7-21: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231402
Opinions?

Hi long time no see.

I am not suprised that you are having problems with your memory. The amount of members we have complaining of trouble with their OCZ RAM at the moment is huge.

The Corsair is great memory and is exactly what I am running. The only thing is you only have a Dual Channel setup and the kit is a triple channel kit. If you buy the same modules but as a dual channel kit they should be fine. Actually I notice that now the 4 GB sticks are reaching the sweetpoint price wise. So maybe you would want to look at those.

You asked for my opinion on the GSkill Ripjaws and I am sure they are fine memory but I really haven't had much to do with them and so can't really comment.
I would say go with Corsair or if you want to get really posh get some Mushkin but make sure it is compatible before you buy it.

Hey, well thing is, I'm unable to find a Dual Channel kit with those same sticks.

Only thing I was able to come across was this, and I would have to order 2 of them and put them in Dual Channel?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145327&Tpk=CMX4GX3M1A1600C7

Voltage isn't very appealing, but the timings seem good.
But would it actually be compatible with my MoBo? Memory List is kind of outdated (2009).. :/

Complete List: http://www.corsair.com/products/corei7/default.aspx

---------

Btw, is there anyway to get an updated Memory Support list?
Because on the BIOS Download Page the Memory Capability has been updated twice since 2009, but they only have their old Memory Support list displayed....

Yes they are on the list and should be fine. They even have an XMP attached which should make setting them up easier, although if you fill all the slots you may have to do it manually.

No I am afraid that we only have the same list as you to work from that is why we tend to use the manufacturer of the memory's QVL most of the time.

Only plan on purchasing two of them (2x4GB) so I should have no problems with them running perfectly fine at 1600MHz 7-8-7-20 timings? :)

One more thing, it says voltage 1.65, but I know from experience, I can only set voltage to 1.64 for this chipset. Would that be fine?

If you are only going to use two sticks it should run at the stated speed and timings ok with the XMP setting.

The voltage as you mention can't be set to 1.65 it would have to be 1.64v or 1.66v either of which would be fine. Obviously I would recommend trying the lower one to start with but don't be afraid to raise it if you find it is not stable. If you do just make sure that the QPI/Vtt stays within 0.5v of it.

Hi,

I want to buy a GA-P55A-UD3 mobo, and add some RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104223 and a RADEON 6870 HD, along with a i5 760 @2.8Mhz. Can you please tell me if these components would work fine? Or you suggest I use othe memory?

I am asking because the MoBo says it does not support DDR3 1600MHz, but I might need to OC the CPU in the future. I found some threads about this, some saying that there is no problem with the RAM as the CPU can only work at 1333Mhz. (until OC to about 3.4Mhz)
I can not find  GA-P55A-UD3R anymore in my country, that I know it supports 1600Mhz.

Kindly regards,
Cristian Lucaci

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte UK Forum.
I would advise you to check whatever memory you are thinking of buying against the QVL of either the memory manufacturer or Gigabyte. If either one list it there shouldn't be a problem. The speed doesn't particularly matter as you can always downclock the memory anyway. If you are not planning on running a RAID array anyway there is very little difference between the motherboards.

Thanks Mantis.

I already checked the products page, and I found the memory in the QVL: 2GB Kingston KHX1600C9D3K2/4G. Does this means it will work fine? Should I use different RAM, maybe corsair with a lower latency? I am not that advanced, im not sure how I can downclock the memory. Also, after OC, can the Mobo recognize the RAM as 1600Mhz?

THanks again.

If the RAM appeared on the QVL page then it should be fine.

Downclocking the memory is easy as it is capable of running at a faster speed than you are setting it for, so no problem there.

As far as overclocking goes it is always a bit of an unknown factor as two identical systems would likely overclock differently and there is no way of telling until you start.

Are you sure it doesn't support DDR3 1600MHz RAM? On the specifications page it says it does: http://gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3439#sp

Although my RAM default set to 1333 and when Overclocking my CPU I went and overclocked my RAM to 1600MHz as well.

What's weird is, during the end of summer when my temps would be around 44-46, I would get a lot of BSOD..
But now when temps are around 42, I don't get them.. LoL

Which is why I want to go ahead and change my memory overall...

There have been a lot of problems with 1600Mhz memory and the compatibility of many motherboards right across the spectrum of manufacturers in the past few months and so we have seen a number of spec sheets have the 1600 speed removed from  them as a safety precaution by the companies. If they don't state that the board works with 1600 and you find it doesn't you have nobody to blame but yourself. You will probably find the board works fine with a good quality memory but it is just not guaranteed. ;)

HI,

Yes in the specs on the site I want to buy it, there is not 1600Mhz:

Memorii suportate:    DDR3
Dual Channel:    Yes
Frequency:    2200 / 1333 / 1066 / 800

Regarding the specification page, I check that page, and that's why I am confused. Shouldn't the seller use the same specifications? I also found that I should not use 1600Mhz with CL9, I should better buy 1333Mhz @ CL7.
If I OC the CPU, I think I need to change the 1333Mhz RAM, right?

To be honest as far as  speeds go you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in everyday use and apart from if you are going to do high overclocks I wouldn't worry about it. If you planning on overclocking get the fastest memoy you cna afford as it will mean it gives you more headroom before falling over. It is usually the memory that decides the limit of the OC.
