Sound Driver Required for Gigabyte Motherboard GA-8SIMLNF

Hi all,

I am hoping that maybe someone on this forum might be able to help. I recently bought a 2nd hand HP desktop pc, but the sound on the pc doesnt seem to work.

The guy I bought the pc from did say the pc had sound problems.

I tried the Line In/Line Out ports at the rear of pc, but these do not seem to work, so it looks like it could be the driver that is required. After looking at the motherboard that they are attached to, the Motherboard says GA-8SIMLNF. Now after looking at the Gigabyte download section, I cant seem to find this model to download anything.

Can anyone out there maybe help as to where I can find the sound driver for this model of motherboard?

Hi there,

Getting hold of drivers for this board might be a little difficult as I think it was an OEM board for use by Hewlett Packard which may be why it doesn't appear on the Gigabyte website.

The best advice I can offer would be to send a PM to runn3R as he actually works for Gigabyte and might be able to get the information that you need or at least, point you in the right direction.

Either do as absic has already suggested or you could try going directly to GGTS and ask them for  the necessary software.

For no sound to rear connectors have you the 2 DIP jumpers plugged if you use not front panel ( connector F_AUDIO )  ?

If you want to use "Front Audio" connector, you must move 3-4,5-6 Jumper.
In order to utilize the front audio header, your chassis must have front audio connector.
Also please make sure the pin assigment on the cable is the same as the pin assigment on the MB header.
To find out if the chassis you are buying support front audio connector, please contact your dealer.

Many thanks indeed for sending me that file.

So once I download it onto my pc, what should I do?, ie will my pc detect the new driver or do I have to do something?

Hello again,

Ok, I have downloaded the file, and unzipped it all. I went to the "SETUP" section, to which it started setup, but then an error code came up saying "-536870397" then "Failed to instal driver for Windows XP".

So are unsure what that means.

Can anyone help any further?

You can also extract file and use sis7012.inf for install manually the driver

look is your audio device is the same
If you send me the PID / VID info i can search another driver

Ok, went to what you mentioned above and when I opened device manager, under Sound, Video and Game Controllers, all it says is:

AUDIO CODECS
LEGACY AUDIO DRIVERS
MEDIA CONTROL DEVICES
VIDEO ETC...

Is it any of these?

Also my XP is Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2

Yes

You have at this time to find name of your sound card ...

If you have not sound card possible problem is because in the BIOS card is not valid

Look if you have in Integrated Periphererals you card not unckeked ...

Where do I look for the  Integrated Periphererals to see if my card is unchecked?

8SIMLNF is different from 8SIML so that's why drivers don't match.
This MB was produced only for OEM's like HP or Packard Bell and support (bioses, drivers, etc.) is provided by them.

I recommend you to contact HP / enter their website to find the driver.
If any problem with HP the you can alternatively read here.
