Which controller on this GA-880GA-UD3H (v2.1) board controls the ATA (IDE) port? The one with the fat ribbon cable.
I'm a bit worried by recent events, and want to be sure I have things properly separated. I have an ATA DVD drive, which is using the old-fashioned IDE port on the motherboard. And I have a 4-disk RAID-10 array on the SATA3_0-3 ports (with SATA3 support disabled).
Twice now, DVD activity has caused severe system anomalies. The first time, I inserted a blank disc to be burned (by Nero), and I got a whole flurry of New Device arrival popups. It turned out that one of the RAID disks had dropped out of the array, and the backup MFT was now in use on it. So I had to reassign the drive, and rebuild the array. Nasty! Then, tempting fate, I burned another DVD and all went well. Until I was closing the drawer after removing the disc. Got an F4 BSOD.
So, it would seem extremely prudent to make sure the DVD is on a different controller than the RAID array! Is it? Or do I need to buy another one that I can plug into one of the GSATA2 ports? Hard to see how I read the (attached) schematic wrong, but I'm really at a loss explaining the above anomalies.
Thanks...
