GA-X58A-UD3R cold boot issues BSOD, network adaptor won't work
« on: December 03, 2010, 12:21:25 pm »
Hi,

The problem is that when I cold boot it gets as far as loding windows 7 then BSOD with page file errors memory host etc.
This all started after about 3 months when the system would only report 4GB out if 6GB of ram. After weeks I eventually got it going again but ever since I just get cold boot issues and after 3 or 4 attempts it will boot ok.

I have sent both RAM, CPU and MOTHER BOARD back to scan.com and they so called tested it and reported back no fault found!!!
Not only has this cost me time and money but after receive my goods back from scan.com I rebuilt my PC and on the first boot up the problem is back not only that but the network adaptor and sound card has stopped working.
I have followed all the tips and help on the forum to the point where I have exhausted every possible move with no joy.

System specs:-
Ga-x58a-ud3r (rev.2)
Intel i7 920 do
Corsair xms3 ddr3 (tr3x6g1600c9) (ver2.3a)
Sapphire ati hd 5870 1gb
Ocz vertex 2 120gb ssd
WD 1tb caviar green hdd
Coolmaster 650 watt psu

Whats next do i send it back to scan.com and pay out another £120 for them to say no fault found or do I throw it in the bin???

Any help/ ideas as it could possiy go out the window before long... :)

Reguards

Andy

Hi thanks I have read that post and have tried different ram etc even gone as far as replacing bios battery!!

But it still does not sort my network adaptor and on board sound problems, they are recognised in device manager but have a red cross through them?

Have tried different drivers, cleared bios etc. But still no joy
Upgraded to latest bios update FC from gigabyte site which caused the problems with the sound and network. I have gone back to FA and still have the problems. As time goes bye more and more problems are occurring

Looking at your system specs I did have my doubts about your PSU. On the face of it everything should be fine as 650W is a fair power source. The trouble is that when you look a little deeper into it you find that the 12V rail is split into three giving a maximum of 19 amps on each. Normally that wouldn't be much of a problem but when you first start especially and everything is drawing the maximum power it might not be able to cope with your graphics card's requirements.

These new cards use a terrific amount of power especially to start up. That would explain why you only have the problem on cold boots.

Ideally you need a 12V single rail PSU for maximum compatibility.

When you put your system back togethor, did you enter Bios and set to load optimised default first? Have you manually set your voltages and timings for your ram etc in bios? Have you loaded your chipset driver and the CORRECT lan driver ? In the bios have you made sure it in enabled?
