DualBIOS in every GIGABYTE motherboard
« on: June 19, 2009, 09:24:03 am »
Gigabyte Technology has announced that its proprietary Dual BIOS technology will be extended to every single Gigabyte motherboard with immediate effect. The BIOS is the initial boot-up firmware that allows PCs to find and check all the hardware that the operating system needs to run with. If the BIOS is somehow physically damaged or attacked by a computer virus the operating system will not be able to boot-up and the PC will be useless. Dual BIOS provides a backup BIOS that automatically repairs or replaces the primary BIOS when necessary – without any user intervention!

The result is a reduced RMA rate (Return Merchandise Authorization – when faulty goods are returned to the manufacturer for repair or replacement). First introduced by Gigabyte in 1999, Dual BIOS has traditionally been reserved for only high-end Gigabyte motherboards due to the cost of an additional BIOS chip.

“Most motherboard RMA issues are related to the BIOS and in the past Dual BIOS has drastically reduced RMA rates on our high-end products,” said Jackson Hsu, Motherboard Product Manager, Gigabyte Technology. “By extending Dual BIOS technology to our mainstream and entry level motherboards we are significantly differentiating our products from the competition and providing our customers with a better quality product.”

He added, “The second highest cause of RMA goods is faulty capacitors and we’re happy to say that 100 per cent of Gigabyte motherboards that are currently being produced use the best quality Japanese solid capacitors. Gigabyte strategy is to introduce high-end features on our high-end motherboards and then extend those features throughout our product range as we have with Dual BIOS and Japanese solid capacitors.”
ZX-S & C64 are still my favourites ;-)

Go for it gigabyte.
Your products take some beating.
It costs the same to produce tidy gear, using good components, ;D
As ner do well components only gets sent back to producer as a hidden cost, :'(
If you get my drift it's not all about profit ;D
