Gigabyte GTX580
« on: November 11, 2010, 04:08:37 pm »
Hi!

Two questions:

1) Gigabyte mostly use their own Ultra durable circuitboards with a thicker layer of copper. However on the GTX580 it seems
all boards from all manufacturers use the same boards? I can't remember seeing a card from Gigabyte that doesn't use
the "Ultra Durable technology". The GTX580 doesn't, how come?

2) When can we expect to see custom versions of GTX580 from Gigabyte. I am currently interested in a SOC series card.
I my opinion Gigabyte stand out a bit from the crowd with it's "Ultra durable" series and also the Gauntlet which in my opinion
is good reasons to choose Gigabyte over other brands.

Thanks in advance!

I have just received an answer from the graphiocs card section and it is as follows:

We are planning to develop GTS 580 SO version, but don’t have a specific time for you now.

Hope this helps.

Yes and thanks! I was actually thinking of bying one of the reference cards but changed my mind. The cooler is just not good enough for a hot GPU like that.
Nvidia has specified the GF110 to a maximum operating temp of 97 degrees C. In a review I read they came very close to 100 degrees C
running Crysis Warhead. Most games does not fully load the GPU but Crysis is one of those which does.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, most reference coolers suck. And there isn't much room for OC'ing.

Guess I can understand Nvidias reasoning, they don't want to put anything on thats to expensive, and yet it should be able to keep the GPU
fairly cool and prolly most of all quiet. The are probably tired of being compared to jetplanes and the likes (not exactly good for business ;-)

Btw. do you have any insight as when we'll see the SOC version of the 480 on the market. It's been a while since it was announced and yet it's shining
with it's absence?

all Nvidia's cards at launch are the same pcb the only things different are bios and maybe the sticker on the cooler

it's only after launch that we get the brand versions
