New GA-X58A-UDR board and the sound stopped working
« on: December 06, 2010, 08:17:04 pm »
New computer build, and we are testing the sound off of the GA-X58A-UDR motherboard.  Using Logitech G35 headphones, we tried to listen to a video on youtube.  The video / sound started just fine.  About a minute into the video, the sound stopped working. Since then, we have not been able to get any sound out of the headphones, nor out of a set of speakers hooked into the computer.  All drivers are up to date.

Any suggestions on what I should check next?

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte UK Forum.

Have you tried playing some other format through the speakers or headphones?

Have you checked the sound hasn't been muted?

Have you checked in Control Panel/Sound that your speakers are the default device and set correctly?

Thanks Dark!

We weren't touching anything on the computer - no mute buttons, no mouse, no buttons on the headset.  Just watching the video and the sound cut out.  I've tried the same video on another computer, and it works.

I also don't get any system sounds.

I'm attaching a couple of screen shots.  I'll post a 3rd after I submit this post.  You'll see the green bar where it 'shows' sound coming through...but it's not, and that green bar doesn't move up and down as the sound level changes.

Have you got power to your speakers still?

What does the speaker icon in the system tray say?

Where do you have it all plugged into. the front or the back?

Ok open up your Realtek audio manager, open speakers tab and make sure slider is all way to the right. While on that tab look across and click onto the Device Advanced settings, you should see another little window. Make sue (if using front panel for headset) the playback device has a ckeck in tha mute rear audio device when front headphone plugged in, and in the Recording device below make sure tie up same input jacks etc is also checked. Then make sure in the windows speaker box you have your sliders all the way up, I see you have yous half way.

Also try remapping your speakers by pulling out the jacks and setting them accordingly.

Speakers are powered and plugged into the back (green plug into the green jack).

I also did what Fatman has suggested.  Screen print attached.  No change.

Oh -- and I when I unplugged the speakers, I plugged them into my laptop and they worked fine.  Even used the same youtube video, just to make sure.

What revision motherboard have you got and what BIOS version are you presently running?

I also take it that the board is actually a GA-X58A-UD3R and you just mistyped.

The latest version is FC and is available here: http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3449&dl=1#bios

You can check your BIOS version when you boot your machine it will tell you at the beginning or you can enter the BIOS and press F9 when on the main page for system info.

If you do update the version DO NOT USE @BIOS because it can be dangerous so use the BIOS utility QFlash.
