T1005M Touch Screen not working

T1005M Touch Screen not working
« on: December 06, 2010, 11:29:58 pm »
Hi Gigabyte people!

After weeks of saving and waiting I finally got my hands on my T1005M! First thing I did was wipe the HDD that came with it as I am planning on installing a SSD very soon anyway but also because I have my own versions of the higher up Win7 editions.

But to my horror I cannot get my touch screen to work! I reinstalled using win7 enterprise (which does not support touch...thanks microsoft!) so I then reinstalled using Win7 Professional and installed all the drivers but my touch screen still does not work.

When launching the touch screen button on the Driver CD it crashes. But I have installed all 3 programs in the touch screen folder and also downloaded the latest driver from the website (which said home starter and basic only...Is Prof not supported?).

I have also flashed the BIOS (because I am so desperate!) but still no go....

There are no missing devices in Dev Manager and when I try to install windows 7 touch pack it says that I need a laptop with mutli touch support and that my computer does not meet these requirements...

Please please please help me! I have a very expensive netbook at the moment....:(

Thanks!!

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Hey, not a good move that was it? Next time wait untill you are familiar with the system before ripping it to bits! ;)

Have you tried downloading the original software from the Gigabyte site?

Well seeing how they advertise the laptop as being easy to upgrade the hardware (which would require a reinstall) and the fact that Win7 is ment to have touch support in built I think its perfectly fine to reinstall on a new hard drive...

As you can see from my first post I have installed all software on the CD as well as the latest touch screen software online. If your talking about Smart Manager that installed successfully from the CD.

I am afraid I am not familiar with the device in question and so can't give any real specific advice but I thought that someone else might have had a better insight into your problem. As nobody else has replied I can only suggest that you PM our Forum Admin runn3R or try contacting GGTS directly.

Just enter your email address and click on the language of choice.

Sorry I couldn't help more in this case.

I wiped my T1005M's drive and installed Win7 Ultimate with no problems. I just reinstalled the drivers from the CD and everything worked. I can tell you that you do not want to install the utility to recognize touch gestures. The reason they include that is because Win7 Starter and Basic don't include features like built-in flicks, so that utility lets you assign actions to various gestures. But, that utility is separate from the touchscreen driver.

I assume you're using an X86 version of Windows, right? None of the drivers will work under the 64-bit versions.

I thought it didn't work too the first time I tried it, then I looked at the SmartManager and saw it is turned off by default for some reason. I turned it on and it works!

By the way, if you still have the SmartRecovery partition maybe you can restore the netbook to factory defaults?

I expect that it is turned off by default as a power saving feature. It is probably a bit power hungry.
