12 Short beeps - what does this mean?
« on: December 12, 2010, 11:19:37 pm »
Sorry if this has been raised previously, but it's really confusing.

System:
GA-890FXA-UD5 (rev. 2)
AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition
Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10666 XMS3 DHX Memory Kit (TW3X4G1333C9DHX)
Corsair GS800 PSU
Inno3D GeForce GTX470
2x Western Digital WD360GD 36.7Gb "Raptor" SATA HDD

Okay, connect all together and power up. System doesn't progress past POST check (i.e. no BIOS screen) and greets me with 12 short beeps followed by a short pause, then beeps repeated.

Have checked CPU, memeory and Gfx in another system without issue. So don't see any problem here.
I know the Gfx card is NVIDIA and the board supports ATI Crossfire, but this shouldn't be a problem surely?
Memory is suitable as far as Corsair are concerned (have checked their website).

Really stuck to work this out? Help graciously accepted.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

It might just be that your motherboard's BIOS doesn't suport the CPU yet. It needs to be at least version F6 which is downloadable from here:

http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3417&dl=1#bios

The only problem is you will need a supported processor to run the update. The other option is to take it in to a local store and get them to flash the BIOS for you. Make sure that you use QFlash to run the update not @BIOS as it is more dangerous.

Dark Mantis,

Upgraded BIOS after managing to find a compatible processor. Thanks for that. It'd help if info like this, which can't be that uncommon, was easier to find.

Cheers!

You are very welcome. To be honest the search engine on this site isn't as good as it could be and you don't always find what you are searching for. As with everything it is easy to find fault as nothing is perfect but I would agree that certain aspects of the site could be improved. ;)
