Why I like the Enermax Infiniti 720w PSU

Why I like the Enermax Infiniti 720w PSU
« on: December 19, 2010, 11:31:02 am »
Hi all!

I recently found a website that reviews PSU's in depth and in detail.  There are many reviews and extensive testings of all sorts of PSU's that I found very interesting!

I really like what jonny said about my present Enermax Infiniti 720w PSU's:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=2

I encourage people here to try to find the PSU you are thinking of purchasing or have already purchased...I was amazed at the detailed testing this guy does on all these units.

Hope this helps someone!

Yes, way down the list, about page 15 or 16 but it made interesting reading.

Looks like a very comprehensive and growing list of PSU's as well as a few reviews for other components and well worth looking at to check out the PSU you already have or if you are in the market for a new one.

Really?  You must be one of those "speed" readers!  LOL!  Ok, which PSU do you have, if I may ask?

Corsair HX620 Modular.

Absic,

An overall calculated score of "9" out of "10" with only a few minor "flaws" says a lot!

Nice choice!

Yes, it is a nice PSU although it is a little smaller on the power front than I would like these days.

When I next upgrade my PSU I will probably stick with another Corsair as I have been very impressed by the one I have and it has taken a lot of abuse due to all the testing I tend to do.

Yes I just read up on  mine although it was only a matter of months ago I purchased it and was happy to see that it still scored highly. The Corsair HX850W is a really good power supply as long as you don't want to run more the two crossfire or SLI mode GPUs at once.

DM,

You sure have good tastes!

Here's why:

Performance (40% of the final score) - and now we come down to the scoring, and this is going to be a snap. Ripple suppression was excellent. Voltage regulation was very, very good. The unit stayed pretty quiet, even in the hot box. And it topped out at 91% efficiency too. I can't in good conscience give the Antec 850W units perfect scores here and then go knocking points off on this unit, so here you go Corsair... your first 10 from me in performance.

Functionality (20% of the final score) - oh, man... how is this unit hurting in this area? The modular cables are the flat kind, easy to hide. There are enough connectors to hook up a boatload of hard drives. There are almost too many connectors for video cards. If I had to complain about anything at all, it might be the unit's depth. It's an awesome unit, but at 180mm deep I can see some poor guy sitting in front of his case, HX850 to one side, sobbing into his hands because it won't fit. This unit isn't country mile long like some of the kilowatt size units I've tested, but it's just long enough to be a possible pain. Half a point off for that. 9.5.

Value (30% of the final score) - Provantage currently has the best price on this unit at $190.28. That makes it about $17 cheaper than the lowest price I can find on the Antec SG-850. That's a win for Corsair, because this unit comes up pretty much dead even in keeping up with that one in terms of overall performance. But, I do find that the build quality of this unit what with the perpetually loose heatsink screws is lagging behind somewhat. So, I'm going to hand out a 9 here.

Aesthetics (10% of the final score) - like all Corsairs, it looks good to me. 10.

I can only say WOW!

When I read the review on your  Corsair HX850W, my face began to turn bright green...and not as in power savings green delight but with terribly selfish green [yours is better than mine] envy!

Yes, I am seriously considering Corsair for my next PSU.  Professional builders and top gamers all seem to recommend them.  The problem I have with them is they very rarely drop the price significantly on Corsair PSU's here.  They do offer rebates often, but I've never been able to find a deal in which the price drops more than 50%.

I suppose I will keep watching and one day they they will offer a killer deal that I will not be able to resist.  Until then, I choose to be happy with the Enermax 720's.  I was so happy as I read Jonny Guru's review on the Enermax 720's.  To be honest with you, I wasn't sure of the quality of Enermax's PSU builds.  Now I am totally at peace with these units and very glad I was able to pick two of them up at such a discounted rate.

When I look at my system needs, I think I am no where near needing to upgrade to 850W or <above.  I suppose I should be content with what I have.  But, you must understand.  I grew up in Silicon Valley.  The predominant attitude in the entire atmosphere in those cities for most people is "You must get faster and you must get smaller!"  This attitude permeates every part of the city.  I suppose I must learn to better recognize this attitude and atmosphere and learn to resist it...esp. when I really do not need faster and smaller per se.

I sincerely believe most of us are influenced by our culture's attitudes and dispositions much more than we readily recognize and admit to.  ::)

With that said, maybe I should consider moving to one of the most remote parts of the planet, and hang out with some monkeys or something...then I'll only have banana's and lady monkey's on my mind all day instead of faster and faster computer components and such.  Who knows, maybe the stress would be less and I would be more happier?  :-\

The problem is I really like building computers as a hobby.  I also like all the strange people and wonderful people I meet like DM and Absic!  Banana's and female monkeys sounds quite boring now that I think of it!

Have a good one DM and you sure made a great selection in purchasing and utilizing that Corsair 850!
