ON board graphics
« on: December 19, 2010, 02:45:45 pm »
Hi there, i am using a Gigabyte motherboard GA-K8N51GMF-9 and i have been trying to install my new graphics card, Radeon HD5450 but its not working, i cant find where in the bios to disable the on board graphics, the bios version is F3b, its an old version, the thing is, it boots, but it just stays on the starting windows screen, but i can hear it going to the login screen, alot of people have said i need to disable the onboard graphics or video, but i cant seem to do it, can you help,?

Many thanks

Well I really think you should update the BIOS to F8 the latest version anyway regardless of whether it has anything to do with the problem or not. Make sure that you use QFlash to do it and you can download it from here:

http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1939&dl=1#bios

You will probably need to remove your GPU to do this.
After the update you can go into the BIOS and load Optimised BIOS Defaults and also change your graphics form onboard to PCIE or PEG.
After that and you have saved and exited you can shut down again  and fit your GPU and then reboot.

Do exactly the opposite of when you installed it. GPU = graphics card ;)

They are different versions of this board. If yours only says GA-K8N51GMF-9 then use just the BIOS updates from that board.

You need to use the smallest USB drive you have and put the BIOS update file on there.

In the BIOS you need to make sure that USB Legacy Storage or something similar is enabled and USB Legacy Devices also.

Change the boot sequence to find the USB HDD first and disable the floppy drive altogether.

Make sure that you insert the USB pen drive into one of the main USB ports on the motherboard before booting up.

When in QFlash make sure you set it to Disable the Keep DMI Data on the home page.

You will probably find that the drive will appear as a hard disk drive when in QFlash.

Have you actually disabled the floppy drive in the BIOS? It shows in Standard CMOS Features and will say Floppy Drive or          A Drive or similar.

Yes might be easier in the long run. Don't forget to enable the floppy drive in the BIOS again though.

When you downloaded the file and saved it did you unzip it afterwards to give you the three files?
