Are my cooling fans placed in the best position and pointing the right direction

Hi again all!

I thought I would update my pic to show the direction of the air flow in my system case.  Does this seem like the best way to set it up or is there something else I can change to make it more effective?

All advice and suggestions readily welcomed [with of course the exception of building a cooling loop that goes three times around my house and to the moon and back like DM has]!

DM, after I finally completed this new AMD build, I felt 6 ft. tall...well until I saw your brilliant build...after looking at your HAF 932 build with the awesome cooling arraignment, I only felt 2 ft. tall!

Darn, out done again!  You must have an engineering degree or something of like manner!  That is the best build I have ever seen in my life!  Both thumbs up and my hat off to you again!

Hi Soar

Thank you for those kind words but no degree maybe just a background in engineering(and many other fields) and  a keen interest.  ;)

You fans look absolutely perfect to me. You need to aim for a balance of air pressure both in and out and I would say that you have got it about right. It is flowing over the main components taking with it the heat from them. If anything you should have a slight positive pressure in the case which is good.

Your build reveals excellent forethought and planning.  I really like the way your cooling system looks with all the UV!  Best of all, the effectiveness of your cooling system must be out of this world.

Ok, I will keep the fans as is.  I added that bottom fan to add a little more positive air flow and keep things moving near the GPU. Everything is working fine now and I am keeping my fingers crossed that everything will continue to go smoothly.

Thanks again for your good advice and suggestions!

I am sure that your system won't stay like that for long before you start getting itchy fingers to do a bit of customising or swapping stuff around. ;D

Rule of thumb. Create a postive pressure inside the case to keep the dust out. I have a M59 NZXT case and this how I have the fan arrangement

Front panel
2 120 mm fans blow in

Top panel - 120 mm
Fore side fan blow in
Far side blow out . The far side fan is mounted outside the case as H70 does not allow to place the fan inside

Side perspex panel - 120 mm LED blow in

H70 fans set to blow out

I find that dust still manages to sneak in the case even with positive airflow!

Fans look perfect, and if you can tuck those wires in the airflow may be increased further! Looks very tidy in there, wish I could achieve that with my build :P

Yes you can never stop all the dust but if you can cut it down to a reasonable amount then that is all you can hope for.

As for the wiring having the right case is a big start and can make the build so much easier.

DM,

I think you know me very, very much because I just found a fantastic deal on a Galaxy GTX 460 Fermi GC Super clocked...

And yes, I hope to install it later tonight!  When I do, I promise to do my best in rerouting those nasty grey USB 2 and Firewire wires behind the motherboard this time!

I hope to post pics of my newly modded machine soon afterwards!

The reviews on the GTX 460 were marvelous with one exception: the fan can be a little loud...hmmmm...I suppose that too can be modded and rectified.

DM, I would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year!  It is New Year's Day here now and we are enjoying the new year.

Hope you are too!

Take good care and hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Soar

I would also like to wish you and your family a very Happy New Year from all of us here.

Are you planning to add wings to this thing in the end ;D ;D

I will look forward to seeing the finished build when you can take some photos and uplaod them. I am sure the modified wiring will make all the difference to the overall look.

DM,

Thanks for the New Year good wishes.  May this be the best year of your life so far dear friend!

Ok, I will post some pics after I finish with the latest mods.

BTW, I have your 3-user license for Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 as you requested.

Here is the license number:

4x382w9f9866350a

Ok, I was only joking about the license number [I know hundreds of people might read this so I do not dare post the license number here].

But I am not joking about your 3-user license for Kaspersky Internet Security 2011.

I would like to privately send you the key if that will work for you.

I think sending you the entire box and disc would cost an arm and a leg to England...can you still use it if I send you the key?

Please let me know how to proceed.

Thanks,

Soar

If it were me then I would have the radiator fan blowing the other way (pulling in air from outside the case to the inside), then I'm sure you will see lower cpu temps.

Yes you are quite right if it were only the CPU that we were concerned with but blowing all that hot air into the case would exasperate the cooling of the GPU and northbridge etc. The couple of degrees that you would gain in CPU temps wouldn't be worth the payout.

DM, I tend to agree with you [The couple of degrees that you would gain in CPU temps wouldn't be worth the payout].  I thought about this exact issue as I was assembling this system.  BTW, I set the Intel system you helped me with to exhaust as well and I am quite happy with it and it is running stable as can be now.

Ok, you didn't give me a clear answer on how to get my promised Kaspersky 2011 IS to you.  Would the key be enough?

Please let me know.

You have helped me so much here and I do not like one way streets!  I like to bless those who have helped me.

Please let me know friend.  Also, please let me know what Absic likes and I will see what I can do [just don't tell him]!
