gtx 460 downclocks
« on: December 22, 2010, 12:09:27 am »
hi guys i have an gigabyte gtx 460 1gb oc nai i have a problem . the card downklocks on load even on stock clocks
its downclocks some times ( once in a week or more often) i try various dirvers and drops clocks with all drivers.
i have a silverstone olimpya 750w power supply and the rest pc is .
q6600 @3600
asus p5q deluxe
4gb kingstone rams.

on the control panel i choose maximum performance than adaptive and still do tha same .
only with restart its going to default clocks 715/1430/900.

when its down clocks only the core and the shader clocks drops the memory clock remains at 900 mhz .

i have this problem from the first week i bought the card .

would i rma it ? they rma it

i do a clean install of win 7 ultimate and tha problem remains .

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte UK Forum.

It might be just an incompatibility between your motherboard and the card. The card is either PCIE version 2 or 2.1 and your motherboard is a much earlier version. Do you know what your motherboard supports?

The MOSFETs do get very warm on all these cards and is nothing unusual at all.

Are you overclocking the card at all?

Well if it is not overheating the only other thing is a driver issue. That doesn't help you a lot I know until a new driver is released. I have already checked and there is no firmware update available at the moment.

The main criterion for an RMA is that the device is faulty so in any situation where that applies (but not through misuse etc) and it is within the warranty period it should be possible to have a repair/replacement.

I wonder if downclocking is the problem with all of these cards.  I have the same card and am in the process of an RMA.  Maybe it's crashing because it's clocking way too low to keep up.

If it is fixed by a restart, then I am almost positive the problem is down to drivers. Have you tried a slightly older version to see if the card still clocks down?

Maybe even try reinstalling the drivers. Uninstall the currently installed driver, ensuring the folder is also removed (I find driversweeper works well, and I bet there are a few other programs that do it too) and reinstall the latest version.

Also, does it downclock whilst an overclock is applied? If not then you can just overclock it by a small amount, or even more if you want to see a performance increase - MSI Afterburner is great for this.

i try many drivers and its still down clocks .

the card is on stock clocks .

right now i hanve 260.99 and its ok for the moment ( one week without downclocking).

if it downcloks again i will try to install again the latest driver .
