Looking for Suggestions for Graphics Card
« on: January 07, 2011, 07:01:47 pm »
Hi all,
I'm looking for recommendations for a Gigabyte graphics card for my rebuilt system.

Ive put a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 motherboard in my machine.  The MSI graphics card is playing me up, so I'm looking to replace it.  Thought I might have better luck if I stick with Gigabyte for the graphics adapter too (Their boards have always done me well).

I'm not a gamer and I  rarely use major graphics apps like Photoshop.  I do a lot of development/programming and maybe have several memory hungry (but not graphics hungry )  apps on the go at the same time.

The one thing I really must have though is dual interface.  My Samsung monitors both have D-Sub and DVI-D sockets, so a card that either has 2 x DVI-D (preferably) or a DVI and a D Sub VGA will work.

Any recommendations?  Don't really want to spend > £100 as I think I'd be buying speed I won't use, but I can be talked up if there's good reason for buying a better spec.   :)

Hi and welocme to the Gigabyte Forum.

Probably one of the 5770 GPUs would be a happy medium for you. They should come in at under £100 and still offer a decently specced card.

Obviously you could go cheaper but it depends on what you want.

Thanks for the fast reply. Appreciate your help.

I've checked the spec on both my Samsung monitors and they both have DVI-D (plus VGA d Sub).  I think the 5770s all seem to have DVI-I  - will I be able to connect my DVI-D cable to a DVI-I output on the card, or do they have a physically different pin layout?

Hi,

you might find this item worth reading as it answers your question: http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/difference-between-dvi-i-and-dvi-d/
