Gigabyte 6850 stock 775/1000 problems
« on: January 09, 2011, 05:02:10 pm »
...Many people reported a lots of problem ! about  hd6850 series .Not only Gigabyte card are reported ,  but most of them are  gigabyte owner who report  black screen, no signal crash, etc .Can we expect any BIOS or driver fixing? Is really anoying when somebody spend almost 200E for a new graphic card and and after a whole week he just change drivers bios  and OS.Fisrt of all the first version of  BIOS was corupted , the fan was runing on 73% in 2d and idle. This problem was solved with F3 Bios update but the rest of the problem remain unchanged.I try the card on multiple configuration with all possible driver and Bios  but her  behaviour was the same, no matter if I used a500W Thermaltake , 500W OCZ , 750W Corsair or a 1200W Enermax PSU.

No signal  in the folowing games under win7 32 and 64 bit:
Black ops, Crysis, Crasis Warhead, NFS Shift, Two World II...
No signal error under XP SP3 OS:
NFS Shift .Also giving graphic artefacts (flickering colour  squares ) under NFS Shift ,  when I set 8AA on high resolution 1900x1200.

On the net is some rummors if the Vram is downclocked at 900 mhz this problem dissapear.Or use 1400mA instead 1600( which is the stock value)
In my opinion if somebody spend her money for a videocard , he want to use that,  not experimenting , bios flashing, or downclocking her card...with risk to loosing the warranty !!!

About  manufacturer(Gigabyte) politics as he dont give any response to the customers I dont comment.........(I am not the only one who dont receve any feedback, 3 of my friend also have Gigabyte 6850 with the same problems, all of them ask for help and no one get any response!

As this seems to be a growing problem I have asked the official Gigabyte representative to look into it and let us know what is happening.

I will post back when I hear more.

Hello Willy Da Man!

I’ve been testing your BIOS, the version number however looks the same as the factory number. I’ve looked your BIOS over with Radeon Bioseditor version 1.26 and I’ve noticed that VRam is 1005 MHz , but the vendor indicates the correct factory number and name.

Have you changed anything else in the BIOS that I can not see due to the lack of a more sophisticated editor, or have you made any modifications at all to the factory BIOS.
I’ve flashed your BIOS into my Gigabyte HD6850(GV-R685D5-1GD)card with ATI winflash software (because the Gigabyte VGA@Bios identified your BIOS as original and wouldn’t flash it) with success.

After reboot I’ve ran some tests: Crysis Paradise Lost Mission – after approximately 20 minutes of full HD settings I’ve got a black screen, however the FPS  hovered around 30 and I’ve never managed to play this long  with these settings before.

I’ve saved a log file with GPU-Z software and observed the temperature of the GPU maxing at 50 degrees Celsius (GPU1 – 50.5C; GPU2 – 51.5C; GPU3 – 55.5C) These temperatures are about 10C lower than the factory F3B Bios values.

I’ve also ran some tests with Flaming Cliffs 2.0 with the highest settings without a black screen.

I’m eagerly awaiting your response, what other parameters have you modified and/or fine tuned that I can’t see.

Thanks a lot for the link, this BIOS seems to work much better than the factory edition.

First guys, I am Villy not Willy  ;D

I did not change anything, local Gigabyte office modified BIOS. I am just a messenger. How ever, if I clock my RAM for a even 1MHz, I get "No signal" screen. I will keep testing, but I think that VRAM latency are set to higer values. Crysis anomalys is what I worry about. In the frost level, on the start when I am in the tunnel, I have horizontal lines ot the screen. Only in a tunnel, but not on a models etc. AA, no AA it is the same.

For now works perfectly, D
Frost 10 laps, passing without any problems with the new Catalyst 10:12, with the old 10.10, will not. Pass the first round but in the second BSOD occurs.

The new modified BIOS does not work if you have previously inserted BIOS F3 B!
You must first put the old modified, and then after a reboot this table is set Villy!

Unfortunately , the new bios doesn't solve the problem. Running FarCry2 Benchmark = 100% Crash in 20 seconds.

...with the  new Bios  F3_C from Gigabyte site , the IDLE cooler speed  rising from 25%  to 40% but the GPU temperature remain   around 40C (22C ambient temperature). This is ok ?  ???
