GTX570 SLI fps issue
« on: January 12, 2011, 08:49:17 am »
This problem is maybe most favorite topic in the net nowadays lol.

anyways anybody has an idea about this:

SLI off: idle temps: lower card 41 C, upper card 69 C (theres only 3 mm gap between the cards)
SLI on: idle temps: lower card 63 C, upper card 74 C

SLI off: Black Ops: 65-148 fps
SLI on: Black Ops: 65-158 fps

Driver: latest
Mobo: Asus Rampage II Extreme
CPU: i7 930@3995 MHz
RAM: G.Skill 6 GB
PSU: 850W
Monitor: 120 Hz 22" Samsung

I got steady 125 fps with old GTX 295 so if theres no cure for this sli problem I will sell them and mount back 295.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Firstly I just want to say the this is the first I have heard of this problem and as I usually run an AMD Radeon setup for graphics I am no expert on the nVidia.

My first thought was whether it was something to do with your monitor as I notice that you are using one with a double the normal refresh rate. Have you tried your GPUs with a standard monitor to se if the problem is still the same?

Are you using the latest firmware for the cards and do they match?

Thanks:)

Is firmware same as driver? 263.09? If yes, then I have latest. Downloaded it today. And yes I have set monitor also to 60 Hz which didnt affect to fps but brought pretty nasty stuttering. Cards should match as they are same brand and bought together, but if there are something strange deeper, then Im not sure.

No firmware is like the BIOS of the motherboard. Make sure that both cards have the same version and it is the latest.

I am not surprised that the display was stuttering at 60Hz as it would be only running at half speed and therefore missing every other refresh.

Does this problem occur in any other game? Could be that Black Ops is just not optimised for multiple cards properly or something, being a DX9 console port. I don't notice this when I play it on my 5970 though...

If you only have the Black Ops game to test it with that could well be the causeof the problem as it is well known to be extremely buggy and I had to download about 1.6GB of patches and updates before I could even run it.

I had problem free gaming when I had GTX295. Steady 125 fps, no stuttering or other jerkyness. So 570 w/263.09 is "too new" for Black Ops? Btw would u tell me about firmware things?

Wheres the edit button?

Anyways I made test with PerformanceTest 7.0. I dunno is it sli compatible. With single card the passmark rating was 3279 and with two cards SLI enabled 2957. Notized also that in the test where multicolor checkered balls flickering fast fps was 4894 with single card and -1000 fps with SLI.

I played today Black Ops with single card and got way better gaming that way. Fps's were almost all the time steady 125 (com_maxfps 125). I tested both card separately and both Pci-e slots. They all working fine. Then SLI in and getting jerkyish game 65 - 125 fps. Maybe it is then Black Ops what sucks big time with SLI. I try to get some other game to test.

Anyways anything new bout firmware updating?:)
