GA-MA74GM-S2 PCIEX1 slot trouble, what gives?

Hello,

I can't get Windows 7 to recognize that I installed a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1850 PCI Express card into the PCIEX1 slot of my GA-MA74GM-S2.

No prompt to install drivers and if I try to install them anyway from the Hauppauge CD, it says there is no supported hardware detected.

Is this card not compatible with that slot?

As far as I can see it should work fine. It doesn't need any spectacular build specs. The requirements are only:

Processor requirements: 2.2 GHz P4 or equivalent (minimum) required for displaying ATSC high definition TV. on your PC screen
Microsoft® Windows® 7, Windows Vista (any version), Windows XP Media Center Edition.
Windows 7 AQ certified and Windows Vista Premium certified*
Available PCIe X1 or X8 slot
Graphics with 64 MB memory (or greater)
Sound card

Maybe the card is faulty if it is not even being picked up by the system. The card is sitting right down into the slot I suppose? There isn't anything stopping it from going the full way down?

Well in that case it would either seem like a failed card or a dodgy slot. The card is easier to RMA so I would take that route unless you have another machine that you can try it in.

thanks for the welcome. I think it is best to start new thread since mine is Intel board. My experience with Gigabyte starts rather badly, but I chose Gigabyte over Intel board due to the fact that Gigabyte board is much more powerful than intel's. I enjoyed the experience now, except with one certain device.

If you are using the onboard graphics with the TV Tuner, that may be the problem. The tuner card needs to use graphics memory and if it doesn't find a graphics card with dedicated memory it may not work. You might want to try using the tuner with a cheap video card.

So, can I actually get the TV card installed on x8 slot (when it is returned to me from the seller)? The x1 slot is too close to the graphic card - which means extreme heat.

There isn't a PCIe X8 slot on the GA-MA74GM-S2. What graphics card are you using? I wouldn't worry too much about heat. How many cases fans do you have?

Normally the PCIEx1 slot is above the graphics card so the heat shouldn't be an issue and it won't stop air from getting to the GPU to cool it.

Forgot to tell you. I actually use GA-X58A-UD3R (it has x16 port running at x8 and x16). But I saw this topic similar to my problem.

You're right. It is above the graphic card port (x16) ... I was worried if the heat will break my TV card again.
