GA-890GPA-UD3H with 1090T - No HDD light.
« on: January 10, 2011, 10:25:46 pm »
Just built a new system with a GA890GPA -UD3H mobo, a 1090T, and 8Gb DDR3 1600Mhz RAM. All BIOS settings are at default, no overclocking at all yet.

I have 3 Samsung F1 Hard Drives, two 1Tb and a 500Gb connected via SATA and with AHCI enabled in the BIOS.

The HDD light on my front panel flashes a couple of times on bootup, but then fails to work at all afterwards. I have double checked the polarity and verified the LED on my case works by plugging it into the MSG plug.

Can anyone advise why this isn't working please.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

not sure why this LED isn't working, especially as it works when you connect it to the MSG header.

Which revision number is your motherboard?
Are you running the latest BIOS for it?

Thank you for your reply.

Mobo revision is 2.1, and i am using the FF BIOS.

Would any BIOS settings prevent this light from working, or is there anything i should try to fix it?

Cheers

So, any further ideas to fix this problem?

Is this something that i could RMA the board for?

I have now tried all sorts fo combinations on the header plugs, and some combinations of HDD's and DVD Drive on various mobo plugs and interfaces, still no sign of life on the HDD light.

Also, can anyone tell me if there will be a new BIOS release to bring back the 0.5x CPU Multipliers?

Thanks.

It is not something I have come across before and as you have proved the LED is working that only leaves the motherboard so I would say that RMA is the only option left to you.

Hi

sorry for not getting back on this one but I have to admit to the fact that I'm not sure why it doesn't work properly. There are no BIOS settings that you can change for this, that I am aware of and the only reason I asked about BIOS is that it may have an impact.

I am hoping to get hold of one of these motherboards within the next week or so and will able to do some proper testing then. Until then I'm stumped, sorry!

Absic I am fairly sure that it is a hardware fault. There is no way to control or alter this function.  ;)

True, but there's no harm in exploring this issue as it may not be with the motherboard's hardware.

Thanks for the replies Gents.

What sort of hardware fault could this be, and how bad is it?

I am not keen to RMA the mobo just for this problem, so may be able to live with it if the hardware fault doesn't affect anything else.

The system seems fine so far, even had my 1090T @ 4Ghz for a few benchies last night.

I have now tried the board out of the case and with another LED, so i can rule out a shorting problem.

No I would more expect a broken link in that circuit but that is pure conjecture. If everything else is working ok and it doesn't bother you too much then I suppose there is no reason to RMA the board.

Hi,

whilst having the HDD light is helpful it is not essential and I doubt it will have an impact on the performance or stability of the motherboard. Whyd do I say this? Well, a PC I built for my Mum a few years back is still going strong but the HDD light on that is intermittent to say the least. It doesn't work more than it does and the overall system is fine.

As a matter of interest what make and model is your PC Case?

I had a similar problem with the same Mobo and processor, also reused an existing case.

Tried the HDD led connector both ways, wouldn't work -- and then, suddenly, it started working.

Been a couple of weeks now, is continuing to work.

Maybe ALL these boards have flaky HDD LED pins?
