P55-USB3 Constant Beeping
« on: January 19, 2011, 03:44:01 am »
Hello,
I recently bought a new custom build from iBuyPower. The specs are-

Coolermaster HAF932 Case
Intel i7 870 Processor
8Gb Corsair DDR3 (1600) RAM
Enermax dual Liquid Cooling Fans
Standard 700w Power Supply
Nvidia - Palit GTX460 2Gb
NZXT Sentry LX
1TB SATA III
30Gb Kingston SSD

I only have one problem with this computer. Everything is fine when i boot,
everything runs the way I want it to except when I first log into windows, the
computer makes random beeping noises, (I'm guessing it's through the internal
speaker). I tried disabling it through device manager but it wasn't responding.
I also disabled it through regedit saying "no" for the beep.sys value. I have no
clue why it beeps when I open programs that use a lot of power such as iTunes,
etc. Is my internal speaker malfunctioning? If you can, please help with this problem.

Thank You.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

It is quite possible that it is an alarm being set off by the BIOS. Often this is the case and if you check all your settings and fan speeds you can probably find the culprit.

How are your CPU temps?   Could be CPU warning for temperature.

Do you have dynamic energy saver installed?

It is also possible that it is a power supply problem. Your PSU even though it says it's rated at 700W may in fact not be anything like that and might be struggling to supply enough power.

In the BIOS all the temp alarms are off. Also on the SENTRY LX, the temp of the CPU is not getting higher than 60-70 degrees F and the BIOS is showing the temps as 30 Celcius. I have a feeling it MIGHT be the PSU. When I turn on the computer I hear some scratching noises and also randomly when it's on I hear it too. I can feel the PSU fan running underneath but I'm not sure what it is. Fan speeds are usually on low unless I'm gaming, then I would set them to high. I contacted iBuyPower again and they said they would send me another internal speaker. Hopefully that is the problem and it is malfunctioning. Besides that, has anyone had or known anyone who has had a similar problem like mine?

Everyone's help is really appreciated,
Thank You.

Also by the way, my sentry beeps randomly. The temp alarm on it is off since the GPU gets hot enough past the alarm minimum. Is that malfunctioning and telling the CPU that theres no fans connected or something? Is there a way I can check this?

-Thank you.

Somehow I don't expect a new speaker to cure your problem  ::)  However as I mentioned earlier it could be a power supply fault.

I don't know the workings of the Sentry LX  but you can usually disable the alarm (temporarilly) and check the settings for each fan that it shows.

Hmm I don't know, when I get the replacement speaker and replace it, only then I will find the problem. In device manager, after showing hidden devices and clicking on the 'beep' properties, I changed the startup to 'disabled' and it says Status : Stopped. Yet, my computer is still beeping? Either a malfunctioning speaker, or something else. Is there a way I can check if it's my PSU? Besides replacing it?

Also, in my BIOS, the only fan that comes up is the CPU Water cooling one, all other fans show 0RPM, maybe this is the culprit? If so, how would I fix that, if you guys need, I can put up pictures of the setup.

Thanks a lot.

Ok wow now I really think it's the PSU, in the power options of the control panel, It was on high performance (beeping) and when i moved it to balanced, it stopped beeping. Bad PSU?
