Well I ran the memory test, it took a while but no errors reported.

In that case I guess that you are going to have to run it at the lesser clock speed.

Well the annoying thing is I got so fed up with it not working, and with what I read about this board having compatibility issues with 1066MHz memory I bought a new board today which is meant to be compatible with memory up to 1200MHz. I have fitted the new board and i am having exacly the same issue. I have set the timings manually to Kingston's data sheet (5-5-5-15 2.2v) and I have set everything else in the BIOS manually according to the BIOS guide in the user manual including setting the DRAM frequency to 533MHz and it is still only showing as PC2-6700 DDR2 800MHz so I am thinking maybe it is the memory at fault. The new board is an Asrock so I cant really ask you for your help anymore but I will soldier on with it and if I manage to resolve it I will let you know. I do actually want another 4GB so as my system is running with 8GB so when I get that I will put that in on its own at first and if it runs at the correct speed then I will return these two sticks.

Thanks for your help anyway.

I am not 100% sure about Kingston memory but most come with a lifetime warranty so you can send it back for replacement if it is faulty.

After setting the timings to 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2v and Dram Frequency to 533MHz it does show up as DDR2 1066MHz in system summery in the BIOS on the Asrock board, even though CPU-Z and System Info report it as DDR2 800MHz as before. The only problem is with those settings I am getting BSOD with the message dumping memory to disk then it reboots, this has only happened when streaming video on the internet.  :'( If I reset the BIOS to defaults then no such problem. Looking at the memory QVL for the Asrock board the 1GB version of the Kingston KHX85002k2 memory is listed.
