GA-X58A-UD3R Won't boot
« on: January 28, 2011, 03:14:53 am »
Shutdown my pc last night which has been working great for months, woke up this morning wouldn't turn on. It tries to turn on then turns back off. Cycle repeats over and over again. I changed the power supply same issue. No beeps what so ever :(. If I unplug the p2 connects from the cpu plug the motherboard will stay on but no beeps or anything of course no cpu power. Think it's the motherboard or the cpu? intel i7-930

Thanks

Took the board out of the case and put it on cardboard. Same thing power up then back down over and over again.

South Bridge Voltage led is red.

Basically soon as it powers up bunch of light flash SB goes red then turns off cycle repeats.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

The first thing to do is take it back to the most basic configuration you can to boot. Remove everyting  except the CPU/heatsink/fan, one stick of memory in the first slot DDR3_1, buzzer and PSU. Try and boot now and see what beeps it makes.

The next thing to check then is to see if there is any damage to the CPU socket pins.

Very carefully remove the heatsink and fan. Probably a slight twisting motion is best to release the two as the thermal paste can act like a glue.

Once off remove the CPU taking extreme care both physically and electrically(static) and place somewhere safe.

Make sure that the lighting is very good and even.

Now scrutinise the socket for any pins that are out of alignment, even slightly.
If in any doubt whatsoever take a couple of macro (close up) photos of the socket and post them on here for us to check.

Also look at the bottom of the CPU at the lands (little copper circles) and make sure that there is a mark in each somewhere near the centre.
If there are any missing marks or any of the pins are obviously bent then that is your problem.

wow that was pain stacking looking at all those pins. None are bent and I do have a mark in the center on each tab on the bottom of the cpu.

OK well at least that elliminates the bent pins form the list of possibles.

Next up then is the power supply. Let's make sure that is working properly. Watch this video and then do the same.

I have a power supply tester it's working fine. But to make sure since it only tests volts and not amps,  I went and bought another psu still same thing.

Well sorry that you wasted money on another PSU, maybe you can return it for a refund.

At least that rules out another component. Trouble is it doesn't leave a lot to choose from. Either the motherboard or processor. Did you purchase them both from the same supplier ?

If so arrange to RMA them both so they can test them together.
