I need some help with BIOS updating

Hello I want to update to this bios http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3449#bios (download please and extra the exe so you see what im talking about) when I open that exe it lets me extract it, which file do I need to burn onto the CD? (I want to use a CD because I don't have a floppy or USB) also how do I burn it on a CD? Thanks in advance!

You can't easily make a CD, but I'll make one for you.   You know how to burn ISO image correct?

This is a ISO File, DO NOT EXTRACT if you think it's Zip or other format as it is not.   If you are unsure how to burn a ISO image please google "how to burn ISO image"

Once you boot to this CD you will have to do the following:

Change drive path to Z after DOS Loads

type Z: at the A:> Prompt



Then dir/w shows the files on Z if you want to view them



Then type the following (At the Z: Prompt) to actually do the BIOS flash

flashspi X58AUD3R.FF

Again, please DO NOT extract the above linked file, it is NOT a Zip file.

Hey thanks what I did was just download @BIOS and load the file from there, It updated my BIOS within a few seconds, lawl. So easy...

You are lucky that it took without any problems as using the @BIOS is not the way we would normally recommend it to be done. The safer way is as Lsdmeasap has explained or to use QFlash and a USB pendrive.

I see. Why is this feature being advertised then? :< It seems to go great... I downloaded the file, installed @BIOS, opened it up.. loaded the file and it told me that it might get laggy for a few sec, it did for 2-3 sec and after 10 sec it was done!

Also I can now run my memory at 2100 mhz.. I was not able to go past 1400 with the old bios, no matter what I did!

I expect that everything worked out fine and there is no need to worry now. It is just it is inherantly more dangerous to do it this way as the @BIOS program runs on top of another layer of software (Windows) and that means there is more likelyhood of a problem occuring.

The BIOS update was a good move without doubt.

Yes, please next time use Qflash or DOS, @BIOS can brick motherboards much easier than any other flashing method.
