GIGABYTE GV-R587OC-1GD Video Playback
« on: January 29, 2011, 02:52:37 am »
Hey guys!

I submitted a support ticket at Gigabyte.com, but i'm sure I can get an answer here faster.

I have a GIGABYTE GV-R587OC-1GD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125326). I put it in and started up some games, everything ran fine. No problems at all! When I go to play any type of streaming videos (youtube, gametrailers, etc..) I get a blue screen or the computer freezes. From what I have been able to find online, the card needs a bios update. However, when we go to the Gigabyte website and find that card, there is no update for it. There is an update for the non-overclocked version the GIGABYTE GV-R587UD-1GD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125316). Is it possible to flash the GV-R587UD-1GD bios to the GV-R587OC-1GD card? The bios I currently have on the card is a much older version. Thank you

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

The graphics card section really don't seem to like giving any updates or details away really. It has been a long standing issue from my viewpoint.

I wouldn't advise using the firmware from another card even if it is basically the same as that the best of outcomes would be that you would lose all the overclock that comes as a part of your card. It could be much worse.

I think it is best to wait for an answer from GGTS and hopefully they will be able to supply you with an up to date firmware for the card.

Do you suggest calling Gigabyte? Because the support ticket has been up a while and I still have not gotten a response...

You can by all means try calling Gigabyte. I don't know what sort of response you can expect from the USA centre but it is worth a try. The ticket you have taken out with GGTS usually takes betweeen 5 and 8 days depending on their workload.
