Kingston HyperX 1600 detected as 1333 only
« on: May 08, 2011, 07:40:15 pm »
I have an intel i7 2600, GA-P67-UD4-B3, and 2x4GB kingston HyperX 1600mhz but the bios detected it as 1333mhz only. Is there something wrong with the bios or something?

Hi

No there is no problem it is just that 1333 is the fastest rated speed specced by JEDEC. You will probably find that the memory comes with an XMP attached that you can enable in the BIOS. If you go to the relevant section and enable the XMP setting as Profile 1 and then save and exit you should have faster running memory.

If you calculate the total of cycles multiplied by the period of the clock here i get a slightly longer cycle with higher frequency

You can test after calculation the time for a total cycle : ( RAS+CAS+t... for speed 1 ) / fréquency 1 and compare  for the frequency 2

I am not sure that this really of interest especially as more high frequency memories hotter

I have P67-UD4-B3 mobo and 2 x 4GB Kingston HyperX Genesis (KHX1600C9D3/4G) which is single channel kit each.
The mobo detected it as default 1333mhz only but I tried to set it to 1600mhz in Bios and run the WEI.

When it is in 1333mhz mode the rating was only 7.6 and on 1600 mhz it is 7.8.
Tried to run crysis 2 and some games, it is stable but then I put it back to default 1333mhz as i am having a doubt that I might burn my mobo/ram.

Is it ok to continue the 1600mhz settings or should I stick to default 1333mhz? Thanks

Note: XMP is disabled in mobo. I guess the ram does not support xmp.

It was a mistake to buy single channel kits for your motherboard as really they should be Dual Channel  and matched.

You are probably correct in that your modules do not support XMP settings. I would suggest in view of the fact that they are not matched to run them at the 1333 Mhz. You will be unlikely to see any difference in real world use anyway.
