CPU setting on 8PE800 BIOS: F9

I am having a bit of trouble with a 8PE800 Rev 1.1 BIOS F9 with a P4 3.0Ghz Intel CPU, a single 1GB DIMM and various AGP graphics cards.

The problem is depending on which graphics card is installed, the CPU, during post, shows it running at different speeds.

ie: With a Radeon 7000 the CPU showed 3.0Ghhz ( 15 x 150 ) however with a TNT2 it shows 2.0Ghz ( 15 x 133 )

There hasn't been any BIOS config. Everything is set to default.

CPU: 3.0Ghz Northwood
RAM: Promos Technologies 1GB V826765K24SAIW-D3
Graphics Card: Nvidia TNT2 32MB
Optical Drives: GCR-8523B & GCC-4480B
HDD: Maxtor 6Y080L0
O/S: Windows XP 32-bit SP3


My question is what do I need to do in order to have the CPU run at the full 3Ghz ?  If I need to modify the BIOS settings, what settings are needed.

I don't have that information.  But if I had to guess, I would say it's around 7 years old.

In that case it is probably on it's last legs anyway. It wasn't a good one to begin with and not very powerful which is what made me ask in the first place.

I would advise relpacing it with a decent model and make sure it is a bit more meaty too. Try Seasonic, Corsair, Gigabyte, Enermax etc.

I appreciate your recommendation.  I will replace it when I get a chance. 

So are you saying that the motherboard's inability to automatically configure the P4 3.0Ghz CPU is because of the PSU ?

A lack of stable power can have all sorts of weird effects, so yes it is possible. However it is hard to pin anything down when there could be more than one problem so deal with one at a time. Replace the PSU and then if there is still an issue we will look at that then.

If you are planning to use this PSU for a long time too I would recommend getting a much bigger one that will give you some breathing room if you decide to upgrade later. About 600w will take most standard systems.
