GA-X58A-UD3R - no boot
« on: February 09, 2011, 12:52:14 am »
Hi,

I just put a new system together but unfortunately for me it just will not boot. I'm not getting anything at all, no lights no sounds nada, zilch.

I originally though it was my PSU, since it was about 1-2yrs old, but it was a quality Collermaster 600W, but although I have bought a new PSU still no luck.

Systems Specs are:
GA-X58A-UD3R rev. 2
Intel i7 950
GTX 260
6GB Kingston HyperX
Antec Earthwatts 750W
1 WD Sata HDD
1 LG Sata CD/DVD

I'd appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

Have you got your ram in the white slots???? If yes try reseating your ram, if not try them in the white slots. Make sure all your power connections are in securely plugged in, eg:~ Cpu power, 24 pin plug and try again. If failing that remove the motherboard from the case and put it on something like the motherboard box and try again. If that don't work then take the CPU out and check the pins very closely and make sure that you have no bent pins, check the pads on the underside of the CPU and make sure you see where the pins have made contact to be sure that the pins are making good contact.

1. Yup, RAM is in the correct slots as per the manual, double checked they are all in nice and snug.
2. I've also unplugged all the cables and reconnected them to be sure they are in correctly.
3. I also double checked the cables to the case front panel to make sure they are in ok.

I haven't checked the CPU yet, I'll be sure to check it when I get home. I've also got a hold of a PCI test card for the motherboard. Hopefully that will make it easier to find the problem as well.

Question, does the motherboard have a power on button to test in case the issue is with the case?

Question, does the motherboard have a power on button to test in case the issue is with the case? You would have to short (bridge) the PW pins on the motherboard. How old is the case? You could try the bridge method as a first to rule that out.

You should still see some led on the board once you turn on your power supply. Before you go through the CPU removal you can test the PSU to make sure it is working by

Try that when you get home. If you see the fan spin up on the PSU then we will have to remove the board from the case to rule out a short somewhere.

If still no luck then you may well have a dead Motherboard! :-\

Case is the HAF932.

No lights show up at all on the motherboard that I recall, I looked every time I tried something else.

I will test out the PSU tonight. It would be weird is the PSU was the cause, bought this new one yesterday thinking my old PSU was the problem, but I had the same result with both, nothing.

Thank for taking the time mate  :)

Hi

My first thought would be a short to the chassis probably from an erroneous motherboard post. Either that or you have failed to connect the 12v EPS cable near the CPU.

Yes you would be surprised how many people make the same mistake when swapping over motherboards. Luckilly it often doesn't cause any lasting damage and once the offending post is removed the system works fine. ;)
