Gigabyte Ga-EX58 extreme Not Detecting triple channel Memory
« on: August 10, 2009, 09:45:38 pm »
Hi I have been having so many problems with this board first one was a buzzing noise which i solved by turning off C1 and EIST not that i wanted to but had to anyway.

The problem now i am experiencing is my Corsair 3x2GB x2 sticks work fine in any dual memory configuration but as soon as i try 3 channel mode nothing no boot just b8 or b9 error code. I have updated my bios now a few times and currently using F9g Beta.

I am really peved the amount of money I payed for this board because it's tecnically still working and can't really return it thanks Centrecom for that!
I am lead to believe the ram isn't compatible but its a bog standard Corsair ram (TR3XG1600C9) (9-9-9-24) the ram is fine no errors (yet).

Anyone have some suggestions bios timing etc before i bin this board and go by another brand that will work with my ram and without buzzing noises?

1.have you try load optimized bios , and run very memory stick on dimm1, and sure all memory are fine?

2. have you try use the fine stick install on dimm1,3,6 ? does any dimm not boot?

if 1, possible one memory isn't good
if 2, possible that dimm slot isn't good anymore ,you will need to RMA.

Thanks for the suggestion but as stated the ram is fine all 6 sticks have no errors.

I have tried every slot every combination any dual config works fine but as soon as i try triple nothing so i'm assuming its software based this problem along with the other problems of EIST and C1 producing the hissing sounds (like dodgy Caps).

I have tested each component in another machine and there fine.
Gigabyte and others are very aware with this problem with i7 core CPUs.

The DIMMs the best I can get is 1,2,3,4 working = 8GB and then the 5th working with certain Bioses F9g not F7  but only 8GB usable for both,
then if i fill the last DIMM nothing. It seems as soon as triple channel is used this happens.

Tried Both of the triple channels blue and white and nothing.

The RMA it will cost me $45 if they find nothing wrong and i suspect thats what they will say that it isn't there product that is the problem.

If it's not working as advertised to me thats not working. (max 24Gb thats a good one can't even do 12Gb)

Gigabyte are you reading this Please fix your BIOS(s) up!

Anyone else with this ram and this MB?

I have your ram and your board with F7 except I run 12GB of it and it runs and reads all 12GB fine, however when i first installed all 6 stix I got a dreadfull continuos buzz and an error code thet meant nothing. I played around for an hour brfore i tried only 3 stix in slot 2, 4, & 6 and forced a bios clear then finally got into bios and quickly changed settings to 9,9,9,24,1 and most important 1.6Volt instead of gigabytes default voltage of 1.5 then added all the stix and it's been fine from then on.

However anyone thinking of moving up to F8 bios with the so called PCIx fix this is a joke I run XFX 8800GTX in SLi and any game performance dies in the arse with this bios revision I play COD4 and CODWAW i usually peg the 200 FPS mark (frames per second) on a 26" monitor running 1920 X 1200 the lowest I ever see is 178 FPS but after BIOS F8 I was going into the red battling to push 58FPS, this has to be a joke right???

Does anyone here call that a PCIx enhancement let alone losing USB logitech keyboard access at the drive boot menu " HELLO GIGABYTE IS ANYONE HOME" I emailed them and instead of getting of there ars#s and testing the SLi issue they responded with "We only recommend the upgrading of a bios file if you have problems".
Well i would say that most people have problems with their bios issues relating to getting the ram to configure right let alone when you set the voltage too low by defualt for corsair ram and expect it to boot...

I'm struggling with Ga-X58A UD9 for a month now.
Whenever I reboot the machine it reads recovering DRAM and reboots again.
It always does this 3 times, the fourth time it boots into windows...but allways with only 8GB usable (out of 24)!!!
In BIOS under M.I.T. it sees first and second slot properly, but the other four are "occupied" but no values are listed.

Additionaly I have the other system with INTEL Core i7 960 and GA-X58A-UD7
There all 12 GB of RAM are visible AND usable but whenever I reboot the system I have to unplug the Logitec G-19 reciever to avoid endless rebooting.

I left ASUS some years ago because of simmilar teething problems with their high end boards, now it looks like it's time to abandon Gigabyte.

To avoid confusuion I would suggest that you split these questions up into two seperate threads and then we can try and deal with them.

Sorry...It was more of the statement than question.
I've been reading the forum and found many simmilar problems, all having one thing in common X-58 chipset.

No problem and I'm glad to see you sorted out the other system. It's just that it can get very confusing when you are trying to build a mental picture of a system and there are extraneous facts thrown in.

Do you still have a problem with your UD9?

Yes, at the moment it's being "examined" by the seller, however there is an interesting development.
I wasn't paying attention and belived the sellers word that Geil is on compatibility list. Only today did i check the list and Geil is nowhere to be found.
I should have taken the matter into my own hands while I had the rig at home and simply swap six G.skil (6x2GB)l sticks from GA-X58- UD7 with six Geil (6x4) sticks from UD9.
Hopefully I might have been surprised.
I'll wait what they'll come up with next week than I'll report back. ;D

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that turned out to be your problem all along. It is not at all uncommon but often people just won't hear that their memory might be incompatible. Please keep us informed of your outcome.
