Back up in USB flash drive? (X58-UD5)

Back up in USB flash drive? (X58-UD5)
« on: March 01, 2011, 03:52:55 am »
Hi all,

I am quite new to building my own rig, but I got one with X58-UD5 mother board in several months ago.

Im using backup software which allows making sector to sector copied whole system backup data, my current plan is schedule backup for every week, make exact copy of system drive into this USB flash drive.

Well my question is, if this USB has exact copy of the system drive, can I boot from it? I saw boot drive priority menu and there are 3 options, USB-FDD, USB-HDD and USB_ZIP, which should I set to?

Any help may appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Yoiur drive would need to be bootable and have a active primary partition to do what you ask. Depending on your backup software (some compresses the data when stored) it would be possible. The best way would be to image your drive every week to the backup drive that way you would be able to boot from it if selected.
