Mounting a Corsair H50 on a GA-790XTA-UD4 Motherboard

I am thinking about buying a Corsair H50 water cooling setup and noticed that some of the installation videos said that you could use the standard back plate that comes on the mother board so you don't need to remove the mother board to install the H50. I don't think that any of the videos featured the GA-790XTA-UD4 so I am wondering if the GA-790XTA-UD4 has a CPU back plate on it that can be used  in mounting the H50?

No you have to change it. Something that is very simple then. You have to take out your motherboard to do the job

You may want to reconsider Corsair cooling kits.  I purchased and have used both the H50 and the H70.  They both worked well...but then the H70 began to leak and placed my entire system at risk.  A number of people are saying the hoses are too rigid.

I have added a pic to show you the leak.

I am presently considering two different options:

1. Build a simple loop using higher quality and somewhat leak proof components
2. Purchase an Antec KÜHLER H2O 620 [the hoses are more flexible and safer I believe].

I still think a couple of clamps is the simple solution and should have been fitted as standard really.

Thanks for the heads up. The  Antec KÜHLER H2O 620 is the same price as the H50 so I think I will get the Antec instead. Are you presently using the Antec?

I cant quite figure out what happened to that guys motherboard in the other thread. Did the cooling system leak water on to the motherboard or was it cracked due to overtightened mounting screws or maybe both?

It seems the damage was caused by over tightening the mounts but also the use of the self adhesive tape to mount the backplate which was a little harder to remove than anticipated.

After waiting nearly one full month, I just received from Corsair the replacement H70 this week.  To be 100% honest with you, I am still debating what to do.  It sounds as if building a simple loop with really nice parts is the safest way to go for the water cooling route.  But that requires a lot of knowledge and understanding of which quality parts to purchase...and I have such little experience in this area.  Before the leak, I was totally convinced the H50 and H70 was the way to go: low price, fairly good benchmarks, and safe as can be.  But now I have lost confidence and no longer feel comfortable using Corsair products for water cooling.

I went back to air on my AMD build, using a Hyper 212+ but I still do not like the idea of a large heatsink and shroud in my case [I really like the idea of a small pump on the CPU with hoses going to a radiator because it allows such better air flow throughout the entire case].

The  Antec KÜHLER H2O 620 seems like a good solution, but it is still fairly new and there are not massive reviews describing people's experience with it.  The one professional review gives it excellent scores, but who knows what happens over time?  Not sure on that yet...

For the time being, I still have the H50 in my Intel i5-750 build.  I will sell the new H70 on Craigslist or EBay.  Eventually I wil remove the H50 and not use it again.  The risk for me is not worth it.

As you can see, I am still searching for the best solution and I am not sure what it is right now.

I would have to agree with bytheway_r that if you don't have the time to decide on all the individual componets yourself then some kit like he describes is a good second choice. All you have to decide on is the size of pipe and connectors to use.

Yes, most people say the Antec 620 is made of similar components as the Corsair versions.  The part that is different is the hoses.  They say the hoses are more flexible and larger diameter too. 

That sure is a nice WC kit!  How much do they cost?

Funnily enough, they cost about the same in the UK, just in pounds instead of dollars . That's why I thought these were quite a bit more expensive than Corsair offerings. Seems like the difference isn't all that big, at least in that linked store ( Corsair H70 - 109.99$ ). With these prices I'd say that XSPC kit is a much better deal. Heck, if they cost the same here as they do in the States I'd go for one myself. In Poland the cheaper of these 2 XSPC kits is about 2,5 times the price of a H70.

Yes, I totally agree too.  $129.99 for the entire set up seems like a much better and safer deal than Corsair's H70.

The installation videos on Utube were really nice too.

As I read the reviews on this WC kit, several people recommended the Feser UV blue [special cooling fluid] for an extra $29.99.  Then there is also the extra cost of the Feser Corrosion Blocker, the Antimicrobial, and the Dead Water Biocidal...and one video showed using the extra UV dye...

All things considered, all together this kit may run closer to $180.  That's a bit expensive for me, a person on a tight budget.  The Hyper 212+ on sale for $15 and installed and orientated so it blows the hot air upward, out of my 200 mm Sniper Case fan suddenly appears a little more attractive!
