GA-P55A-UD3R wont boot from usb

GA-P55A-UD3R wont boot from usb
« on: March 06, 2011, 02:22:36 am »
I created a bootable windows 7 installation usb disk which works fine on my other machines and boots and installs perfectly.

I cant seem to get my motherboard to boot from the usb, ive tried with fat32 and ntfs, legacy and usb is enabled in the bios.

I've tried booting from every type of usb option(USB-HDD, FDD, ZIP ect) created the usb disk in DOS,windows GUI and with third partys apps with still no luck. Have tried putting the usb in different usb slots with no success either.

I could try to update bios although i dont see why the 2009 bios couldnt boot from a USB flash drive

If anyone has any ideas would be great thanks

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

You seem to have been fairly thorough already and covered most of the usual causes. I think it would be worth updating the BIOS to the newest version although \I agree that there is no reason why it shouldn't boot from USB on your version anyway. I don't know what size of USB drive you are using but I have noticed that the smaller drives are usually accepted more readilly than the bigger ones. Gigabyte's BIOSes do seem to be a bit sensitive about working with some makes of dive though.

the usb is only 8GB, and is able to boot from other machines no problem.

the usb can obviously be read in windows but the bios just dont want to detect it upon boot

i know there have been a few others which have experienced similar issues

As I said before sometimes these BIOSes can be a bit picky. It would be worth trying a smaller drive or one of a different make. You are correct you are not the first to have this problem, if you do a search of the forum I am sure that you will find others with similar issues.
