XP Pro wont Install on GA-H67M-UD2H
« on: March 10, 2011, 08:53:10 am »
I am trying to install XP Pro using a GA-H67M-UD2H , but it freezes at 34 minutes
The problem is that the USB Mouse does not work, only the keyboard
When XP freezes on instalation its because it wont load USBPORT.INF
by looking at the setupapi.log it shows that it freezes on this usbport.inf , by editing and removing this file from the setup you can install XP
XP will install but no usb ports will work , Only the keyboard works , I cant use a usb mouse to navigate around XP to try and fix the problem

Any Ideas ??

Any Help its driving me MAD  >:(

THANKS

I would say that your hard drive is your problem as if I am not mistaken it is a WD Green and they are not made for boot drives and will keep trying to power down after a given period of time.

Thanks for your reply
Not sure if the WD Green is the problem
Just tried to install XP again and noticed the mouse wont work on the install screen
and the HD light flashes up untill the point it stops the install at 34 Mins
If the drive powers down , how long would it take after it stopped read/writing ??
The XP disk works fine on my old P4 system
Is it something to do with the usb ports on the MB not compatible with the drivers on the instalation disc ?

Not sure if this will help ?

Thanks Woody

All I can say is that yours isn't the first Green we have seen on here causing problems when trying to use it as a boot drive. I would advise changing it for a faster drive like a Black or Samsung F3 or something and then see what happens.

You can still use the green as a data storage drive so it won't be wasted and you just need a new drive for booting Windows and programs so it doesn't even need to be that big.

See xxwickedxx's reply here, seems like the easiest and best way Ive found to get around the issue, which is normally that XP can't find or install the correct driver for some hardware component (Which you can fix later)
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/490703

His post is about half-way down.   As mentioned in that thread, you may also want to try a different DVD if possible too, as a dirty DVD drive can cause this to happen, as can a old or scratched/dirty install CD, so burning a new disk could help as well.   If you burn a new one, always use the slowest burn setting when burning an OS Disk.

Thanks for that Lsdmeasap. It is not something I have come across before and so I have learnt somethign there. As for the Western Digital Green hard drive, that advice still holds true though as they are not meant for booting.

Thanks for all your replies about XP

I had already tried the xxwickedxx's tip to find that USBPORT.INF is the problem when loading XP
You can complete the instalation of XP but none of the USB pots work
HENCE you CANT  use the mouse to move around windows to try and solve the problem
Tried using the key board but cant select all the thing you need to try and solve it
The board only has  PS/2 Keyboard so the mouse has to be USB
Any Ideas how to get around this ??

Thanks
Woody

What port is your hard drive connected to ?

You could try using a double connector for the mouse/keyboard.

You can get device manager up with keyboard only, but you are right navigating like that sucks!   If you want to try, bring up device manager and then update driver on missing USB Device, then choose from list of already installed drivers/devices and you will find the USB drivers in the list as I've seen someone that had to do similar before.

Or you could try now, is a repair install of XP.  That should go over a bit more smoothly, be sure you hit repair on the blue screen where you choose disks to install to and it says windows already there, not the black screen asking about repair console.

If that doesn't work you could try replacing that file (And all USB Files) back into the windows directory manually, from another system with that disk connected as a spare.

****SOLVED**** XP Pro wont Install on GA-H67M-UD2H
« Reply #13 on: March 15, 2011, 11:32:54 am »

SOLVED AT LAST  :)

Thanks for everyones comments and help about XP Pro wont load on GA-H67-UD2H

problem was that when installing XP on this board it frooze at 34 minutes because it wouldnt
load the file USBPORT.INF for some reason

Solved this by Adding Service Pack 2 to the Instalation CD

I slipstreamed Service Pack 2 onto the XP installation disk as per
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html

Looks like the drivers on Service Pack 1 are not compatable with the newer Boards?

Only problem now is that this board is due to be exchanged as it has the issue with the
Intel B2 Stepping 6 Series Chipset , just hope i dont have an issue with the new board

Thanks

Woody
