GA-P67A-UD7-B3 UEFI RAID 0 BOOTING ????
« on: April 14, 2011, 08:52:38 am »
i guess these boards are using hack for 3TB efi booting?

i've been working with UEFI for over year now, just switch from Asus to GB.  I'm not able to get working RAID 0 UEFI Win7 x64 to work correctly.

To boot true Windows 7 x64  efi or uefi you have to make custom .ISO by using oscdimg.exe from W.A.I.K.  are run command.

Only way i've been able to boot custom .ISO with CD set to  efi is in ACHI mode.  It will NOT work with CD set to RAID.

When install in ACHI to RAID 0 i get error or on 2nd reboot the loader does NOT to what or wjhere to load.

I've tried both controllers also.

Can somebody explain the Gigybyte efi feature, it seemms it's just hack and MOBO needs firmware update for TRUE UEFI MOBO.

command line example :

Copy the oscdimg.exe file into D: . Then type the following commands in Command Prompt.

(i) d:

(ii) oscdimg -w4 -os -lWin_7_x64_UEFI_ISO9660 -m -o -n -pEF -e -bd:\WIN64ISO\efi\microsoft\boot\efisys.bin d:\WIN64ISO d:\Win_7_x64_UEFI_ISO9660.iso

Replace the "WIN64ISO" folder name by name of the folder where you extracted the Windows Setup disc files. After the process completes, write the Win_7_x64_UEFI_ISO9660.iso file to a disc. This disc will not boot in a BIOS system but it will boot in a UEFI system.

Hi

The Gigabyte BIOS/EFI is a hybrid and sort of transitional element at the moment. It is not the full blown UEFI as the manufacturer didn't feel comfortable swapping 100% to a rather unknown technology. As it is the main features are incorporated like the 3+ TB hard drive usage etc.

On your problem why dont you set the controller for the optical drive to IDE mode or even AHCI mode?

i've tried every way i can think of.  the only way to ©et install UEFI disk to boot is in ACHI.   When i try i try to install to GPT it says BIO not supported.  Then if the Disk isn't formated and select it, it will install but on reboot during install the loader will not load.  Remeber im trying to use RAID 0, im guess 3TB EFI is JBOD and not RAID?

Tech support sent this, but it doesn't work either.  They guy i spoke todidn't really even know what UEFI was.  He sent me this email.  I tried it, no luck.

RE:
“SATA Port0-3 Native mode” must be disable.

I can use AHCI, right?   I'm pretty sure  Controllers want work in IDE, I've never tried because i always use AHCI.

Hi William,

1.       Use the “Auto”
2.       Recommended to use the Intel controller set “PCH SATA Control Mode to RAID” and the “SATA Port0-3 Native mode” must be disable.
3.       After reboot, press” Ctrl+I” to enter the RAID setup menu.
4.       Your SSD must be connected to the Intel (blue SATA port).

If problem persists please give us a call back.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried it, still didn't work.  Can you get me detail settings for

1.  CD boot setting's, i have 3 choices {EFI, Non-EFI, or Auto}
2.   Integrated Peripherals eXtreme Hard Drive settings & PCH SATA Control & eSATA "i attach Screen Sot of BIO for these settings I'm looking for."
3.  Which controller's , intel or Marvell, or both?

Im using Windows 7 x 64 UEFI by creating custom .ISO with this method.

I am no expert on EFI myself, but I would assume that the best setup would be to use your RAID0 on the Intel SATA3 ports and set to RAID and the optical drive on another controller's port and set to IDE mode.

I don't think you said how big your RAID is but if it is under the 3 TB then you don't need to set the optical drive to EFI.

FYI - TRUE UEFI only boots with ACHI enable, want work with IDE.

I appreciate the help.

Thanks for the info but I thought full UEFI didn't even have an IDE mode option. :-\

Sorry for my bad grammar,  your right.  UEFI will not work with IDE.  Only works with ACHI enable.  You have to set CD/DVD 1st in boot order with ACHI or  WIndows 7 x64 custom .ISO will not load kernal in bootx64.efi.   The custom Win 7 x64 ISO will create GPT instead of MBR partitions.

ASUS P67 MOBO have UEFI and RAID feature, but they have lot of work to do because it's buggy.  I brick 5 MOBO in 2 week span.  SO thats why i switch, i just mis-read GB efi feature.  Im happy with MOBO, just hoping firmware update coming in near future.

As I understand it they are working on it all the time. Hopefully when they are fully satisfied with it and it's stability we will get the full blown version.  ;)

Ever figure it out? I've been trying to get Win 7 installed (Different board but same problem I think) on a RAID 5 and can't get it to go.

Either I boot with drivers in ACHI mode and can install win7 with EFI and GPT to a single driver but when I set the controller back to RAID it refuses to boot just with a _ flashing in the upper left corner.

or I can't get it to boot in EFI mode off the CD with the controller set to raid.

If I move the DVD rom over to the Gigabyte ports set to AHCI mode it refuses to boot onto the DVD rom drive.

i gave up.  I discover there are f6 XHD preinstall drivers, which i did not use or know about at the time.   You might want to try those.

I've tried but the issue isn't in the F6 drivers since it reads the drives, the issue seems to be in the EFI implementation.  Either can get it to boot EFI in ACHI mode or get to a flashing _ in RAID mode.

I'm bout ready to give up too since I can't get anything going, really disappointed since the intel ports are the only RAID ones of use if you have more then 2 drives.  I could live with the CD rom being on a gigabyte ACHI port but to limit the Intel ports to ACHI is crippling.

Going to give it to the weekend see if I can do it somehow but think it's the implementation that's flawed.

Yeah, I spent few days trying.  Like you i got it to install in ACHI, but no go on Boot in RAID or ACHI mode.   Rumor has it there working on it, hardware built to support it.  You could try PCIe controler, they usually have there on BIO / EFI settings.  I wouldn't go out & but buy one, try to test if you have access to one.  i wouldn't use raid 5 with intel controller.  It's basically soft-raid, not necessarily good idea except with RAID 0 & 1.

I got OSX install in RAID 0 using Marvell controller using iBoot.

Well I've given up too, unless they release a new BIOS doesn't seem possible.  I need raid 5 for redundancy speed isn't so much of a issue and it performs well enough, later I'll get a dedicated hardware card to take over.
