GA-870A-UD3: Looking for compatible RAM

Hi. I have a GA-870A-UD3 mobo and have been using this RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ.

After several months of stable usage, both ram sticks became unstable and started causing BSODs and failing memtest86+. Each failed when plugged in separately.

I just bought G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) F3-10600CL9D-8GBNT. One of those sticks won't allow my computer to post. The other stick is causing BSODs and fails memtest86+.

What is some good, stable, compatible ram for my mobo? I prefer to have 8gb.

For tested and compatible RAM you should check here: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/download-center.aspx?kw=GA-870A-UD3 you will have to pick the revision number of your motherboard as you haven't posted that and I can't give you a direct link.

However, I use Corsair RAM in all of my builds and have not encountered any issues (famous last words). Not sure of availability in the USA but I have used various modules and kits and have always found them solid. In particular the latest Vengance Modules have proved to be extremely good.

The Corsair Vengeance Kits are a good price compared to most other decent memory here in the UK too.

yes these are the same type I have been testing recently across several AMD gigabyte boards and they have been OK on all of them. Just bear in mind that they will default to 1333MHz which is the safest speed to run at if you are using an AM3 CPU.

With the same MB I am using G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL
So far it is stable.

What is the fastest memory in 4GB sticks that will SAFELY run, with an AM3+ CPU? (Phenom II x4, 3.2GHz) Will RAM faster than 1333MHz be less stable, or is that just for AM3, not AM3+? I currently have 4x 4GB 1333 DIMMs, and would like to upgrade the speed, provided I'll get better performance and/or stability.

Hi,

the same information also applies to the Phenom AM3+ CPUs. The problem is actually with the memory controller that is built into the CPU.

If you want to run faster RAM then, you should only populate with 2 sticks (1 per channel) but the actual speed increase is really not noticeable.

From my own experience you are better off running your RAM at 1333MHz and if you want to increase overall performance then you should look at O/C'ing the CPU a little.
