Gigabyte X58A-UD7 rev.2 + 12GB F3-17000CL8D-4GBXMD 2133mHz
« on: April 18, 2011, 02:27:17 pm »
Hi! I got Gigabyte X58A-UD7 rev.2 motherboard, everything is running on basic freqs, voltages and timings...
But motherboard sees only 4Gb in 2133Mhz mode of memory..
Boots with 12Gb only on 1800mHz.

So my question is: how can i make this memory run whole 12Gb on 2133mHz?
Strongly like to do this, since it boots in4Gb on such frequency )

Thx in advance

Here's BIOS status to give you and idea..

Current MIT status

Frequencys

CPU features

Memory

Timings

Voltages

Current system status (notice actual DRAM voltage lol)

I have also started the thread on g-skill forum, but they can't help me yet..
Here you can find the whole thread http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=8189
Please help me!!
This is really weird i guess...since it boots with 1800mHz without ANY issue!
Or maybe you could fix it with new bios...i've seen you got a new one in beta-test now...

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Normally there are two different reasons why the system doesn't see all the memory.

One is bent pins in the CPU socket. The other is a too low QPI/Vtt setting. As this is the easy option I would try this first.

Try increasing the voltage until it is between 1.2 and 1.45 v. It is a case of "suck it and see".  Also make sure that you are setting the memory voltage and timing manually. You will probably need to increase the memory voltage by 0.05v as well considering the extra load put on the controller because of the filled slots.

Thank you Dark Mantis !
Guess i have tryed that already, increasing voltage on CPU/VTT to 1.5 even - won't give any difference, still sees 4Gb :(

About bent cpu socket - impossible, i've checked it very accurately while buying / installing, and have installed cpu in super-accurate precise mode of myself :D than carefull gradually make my corsair watercooler on it...
So i guess and HOPE also that this is not hardware problem in this case! :)
And yeah, as 've said...It's strange than, than it sees this exact memory 12gb in 1800mHz mode (with x14 mode)
It's actually stable, but i strongly want to make memory perfomance as it is...

P.S. Timings have been seted manually just as spd memory profile, and my actions also have been confirmed by G-skill vendors multiple time...So this ain't the issue too i guess..
About voltage - i have a little doubts, coz when i'm setting DRAM 1.680, it actually shows 1.648 in Current system status...Needed voltage wor this RAM is 1.65, but i can't set it more precise then setting 1.68 :(
Also such a huge difference between setted and real values leads me to thought that voltages could vary a lot...which maybe leads system to instability in this case.

Please check out the screenshots, maybe they'll give you an idea, but the screenshot with voltages actually is 1.68 on DRAM, i've just take screen while testing out...other values i guess is the same in auto mode.

How?
I thought this model can change only 0.1 step dram voltage...

You haven't got the memory setting configured manually at all! You have the XMP selected as Porfile 1 which is overriding any other settings you change for a start. ???

It wasn't CPU/Vtt that I said either it was QPI/Vtt.

My bad...I mean of course QPI/VTT

But about xmp...I wastring with or without - totallyno difference, i guess they affects only what will be setted in auto mode, ain't it so?

You need to disable XMP first and then you will have control over the settings for the memory. Ohterwise the XMP setting takes over.

Input all timings and voltage manually as I described and hopefully you will get your memory back.

Ok, i understand...
Just done this - exactly the same (actually last boot i use was without xmp already)
I have also tryed again to raise gradually the QPI/VTT as you have said - no luck :(

I found strange the fact that now i can boot full 12 Gb 1800mHz without problems, but 2133mHz...no way :(
So this sounds like non-sense, i mean at least it tells that all the slots and memory itself are not damaged and working..

P.S. You have said to input all the timings...But actually i got only the main 8 9 8 24 and 2T cmd rate, g-skill staff have said that other i should leave with auto..

Well it could be that your settings are still not right or the memory won't overclock to 2133 which is quite possible when you consider the highest JEDEC standard is 1333 Mhz.

You could try slackening off your timings a bit.

I can provide a new pictures of bios to get you full idea of current system state and what to do with this, should i do this?

Well, about memory - it totally can overclock to 2133mHz and it's timings CL8, coz damn, it works on this frequency and timings perfectly with 4Gb! I have payed aloooot of money for this memory, in my country it is actually best memory i could possibly get! I have waiting appearance of 2133mHz with at least Cl8, and now i got in this awful situation...
So i won't just loose my hands, there gotta be a solution, problem is definately not in memory or it's timings, i feel that this is BIOS / motherboard issue.
Of course i could try higher timings just to see if you're right...But this is not the solution.
P.S. Look at MIT screenshoot, it actually sees all 12Gb, but post that only 2 of sticks enabled..

update: 9 10 9 28 timings - same. I was right..

Yes your motherboard supports PCIE version 2.0 no problem. The x16 is the badwidth(speed) of the slot and bus. I hope that I have made that clear enough. If not please post back.
