Gigabyte GTX580 3GB Version! (GV-N580UD-3GI)
« on: August 30, 2011, 10:38:07 am »
Hello everyone,

I am new here so I'd first like to introduce myself and say I'm glad to be a member of this forum!

My question is in regards to the up and coming GTX580 GV-N580UD-3GI from Gigabyte, an improved version of the GV-N580UD-15I, with the main improvement being that they've doubled the graphics memory to 3GB.

I've been meaning to purchase a new graphics card for a while and I want to upgrade from my current Gigabyte GTX260 SLi configuration to the monstrous GTX580, due to a change in my financial situation. Because I'm a Gigabyte fanboy, but mostly because I love the cooling setup, I've had my eyes specifically on the Gigabyte GTX580 1.5GB card, which looks beautiful and would be perfect and I even intended to buy it. However, upon searching for reviews I stumbled across an up and coming version that has 3GB of graphics memory as opposed to the regular 1.5GB, so I thought I may as well get that one instead as it would be only marginally more expensive and well worth the money...

The cards' details can be found on the Gigabyte website here -> http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3984#ov

Unfortunately this new card isn't out yet (as far as I know!! :-\), so I obviously couldn't purchase it. I instead decided to find out if I'd even be able to purchase it and if so, where from and when! I started by searching around articles on the web to see if I could find any news and low and behold, I did! I found many articles and forum posts announcing the release of this card and many articles I found even said something along the lines of;

Quote
"The GV-N580UD-3GI is currently available for pre-order priced around €456."
..claiming that I was able to pre-order it, yet failing to specify exactly where from! False info?  ???

http://www.tcmagazine.com/tcm/news/hardware/40268/gigabyte-readies-geforce-gtx-580-3gb-memory

..and even some guy on a forum seemed to know the details.. and there were many others like it!

http://www.friendsmania.net/forum/pakistan-tech-news-telecom-pc-gadget-prices-technology/129642.htm

Bare in mind these articles have been published very recently (20th - 23rd August 2011) I can't imagine why they'd all lie..
Is it even actually available to pre-order? I see nowhere that I or anybody else can get their hands on it!

I don't think I'd be too happy if I bought this very expensive card, only to find that a 3GB version is released a few days/weeks after for something like a measly £50 more!

Does anybody know what's happening with this card and if it will be available any time soon?? I may not be able to pre-order the card despite the misleading articles, but I'd love to know any details about its release??

If anybody can shine some light on this I'm sure more people than just myself would find it very interesting and even financially beneficial!  ;)

Thanks alot!

I have quoted this question by WorLad as it has been blocked by our wonderful security software.

I must say I couldn't find anywhere in the UK that has it listed even for pre-order. The specs and price would seem to be about right though as I did find this one from Gainward.

Ok, so it appears that this card is available in one place...

http:// www [dot] trademe [dot] co.nz/Computers/Components/Video-cards/PCIExpress/auction-402194964.htm

New Zealand!  :o

(Replace [dot] with . obviously, haha! This was to avoid the above problem!)

Also this place;

http:// etechonline.info/p/14956/

They claim that it is brand new and available... I don't understand!

Quote
Item Code: D-GVN582_VNI
Available: Yes

Ok, so this makes no sense??
If there are no release dates for the UK and even perhaps no release at all for the UK, I will ask one question;
How much difference would the extra 1.5GB VRAM actually make??

I am aware that I could get a Gainward 3GB card, sacrificing some nice cooling and even (the less important, I guess  :-\) overall sleek blue look of the inside of my computer.. I am not currently using a multi-screen or 3D setup, so is it worth it?

EDIT:

So it seems it is in fact released and available to purchase in New Zealand for the price of roughly £450 pound sterling...

http:// www [dot] pctronix [dot] co.nz/product_info.php?products_id=31472

Hmmm...  ???

Upon further investigation, I've found that the card is available in New Zealand, but nowhere else for some reason.. I can only assume they haven't released it in any other countries, but it eludes me as to why! This leads me to also assume that there will be a worldwide release date in the near future.

For further evidence I consulted Google New Zealand and got this result;

http:// www [dot] google [dot] co.nz/#q=GV-N580UD-3GI&hl=en&prmd=ivns&source=lnt&tbs=ctr:countryNZ&cr=countryNZ&sa=X&ei=sm1dTozCA426hAfo_4XxAw&sqi=2&ved=0CAcQpwUoAQ&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=db6b92780c3bc1ea&biw=1680&bih=920

No mention of release dates or why it is specifically New Zealand that is inundated with them!  ???
If anyone from New Zealand could shed some light on this it would be very interesting!

Thanks again!

EDIT:

I've e-mailed the sore owner at Etechonline for information, hopefully he doesn't find the question too strange. I'll post the reply when I get it, for anybody interested. The question was basically regarding the release of the card in New Zealand in an attempt to get some idea why they're all enjoying shiny new hardware weeks and maybe even months before us lot! >:(

If anything it is normally the other way around and the antipodes are usually lagging behind on the new technology releases.

There is the new Nvidia dual GPU 580 with 3GB memory due out shortly but I suspect that will be somewhat more expensive again.

Interesting, I haven't heard about this myself, unless you're referring to the Asus Mars II which is incredibly rare and as you say quite a bit more expensive. I'm quite skeptical about dual GPU setups though, with all the micro-stuttering nonsense, I read an article in Custom PC magazine where SLi-ing 2 GTX580's actually reduced the performance significantly because nVidia just haven't quite fathomed the software that runs it. This goes to ATI CrossfireX also, with their latest card having significantly reduced frame rates in a dual GPU setup. This leads me to wonder whether having the GPU's on a single PCB will eliminate the issue, especially seeing as it seems to be a software issue.

Having said all that I do own an SLi rig myself which is actually quite good, for the most part, it's just on a few games that it forces you to use Vsync (or its unplayable) and caps you're FPS to 60, which is very annoying!

Anyway, no dice on the e-mail, I'll keep my eyes on it.

Yes I was actually talking about the Mars II and as you say it is going to be in very short supply. Price unsure of at the moment but certainly not going to be cheap! They are only  making a limited supply anyway.
