GA 990 FXA-UD7 trouble posting
« on: February 26, 2013, 11:36:31 pm »
G'day,

I've been away from my computer for a while, and have had it in storage for approximately 3 months. When I've gone to turn it back, I didn't get any output to the monitor. No BIOS, nothing.

I was using the following;

FX-6100 (not overclocked)
8 GB of RAM
AMD HD 6870

The post codes on the digital display cycle between  F2 and C1 briefly, then stay at 25 for longer, and cycle again. I initially thought it could be a BIOS problem, as when I bought the motherboard I had to flash to bios up to F4, however after using an older AM3 CPU, the codes cycle between F1, C1 and hang at 25, then cycle again.

I've tried a different power supply, graphics card, older AM3 CPU, and other sticks of ram in all the slots all with the same problem.

I managed to find an older board, and checked all of the components except the newer AM3+ CPU. They work fine.

I'm tempted to return the board as its still (just) under warrenty, but thought I'd ask here for advice.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Cheers,

Jim

Have you tried doing an extend CMOS clear by removing the battery and leaving for a while? If not I would try that.

If still no joy then probably best to start RMA process as trying to sort out these kind of problems can be time consuming and very frustrating.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

The BIOS doesn't like to update sometimes.

Put some 1333 memory in and see if that works.
