GA-870A-UD3 REV 3.1
« on: April 25, 2011, 03:14:15 pm »
Hello!

Was looking for this board for a while now, most retailers have 2.1 and also some advertise 3.1 which in fact they dont have, i've sent back 3.0 last week. Could gigabyte staff or anyone who knows about this tell me where to get one, or when they are due to be out on the shelves. thanks

Hi,

I have asked Gigabyte UK this question last week and have still not had a response. I will ask again and will post back as soon as I get a reply.

OK

I have just got a reply from Gigabyte regarding the availability of Rev 3.1 Mobo's in the UK and they should start appearing within the next 3-4 weeks.

Nice info man :). Seems they 'll become available just a few days before Bulldozer. Perfect match.

But I am 99% certain, that some boards with that revision 3.1, had allready appeared for a while back in March. Obviously they reconsidered their marketing and decided to RElaunch alongside with the Bulldozers.

Can you confirm that? Any clue? I am wondering cause I 've been waiting for almost 2 months before I build my new system, awaiting and awaiting and awaiting for the fresh revision 3.1.....that every day would reach the stores.

It 's very clear now, that they 've changed their initial plan for the specific products (rev.3.1 AM3+), to match AMD's "hot seller Bulldozer" availability.

PS. Is there any possibility, that the Japanese earthquake (11/3) have raised some manufacturing problems to Gigabyte's suppliers? :-\

Hi there,

Not aware of any issues regarding production problems due to Japanese earthquake but I'm sure that it must have had some effect.

I'm not certain that any of the 3.1 boards have actually been made available yet but I could be mistaken. A few websites have been advertising them but I think this was more in wishful thinking than from holding them in stock. Like most manufacturer's I would also think that Gigabyte would feel it prudent to wait to release these boards a little, to tie in with the new processors when they come along, but this is only speculation on my part.

I believe the Rev 3.0 boards are available but of course, suppliers will be trying to move older stock first, so getting hold of one of those might also be tricky.

I have also been informed today that users of the Rev 3.0 motherboards will be able to use BIOS for the rev 3.1 boards to allow them to run the new AM3+ processors, when they come along but with some limitation, mainly with temperature detection.

So, my speculation was right...

.....and maybe we 'll see a future BIOS update even for the "rev.3.0" "white socket" (considering and assuming by the common BIOS) that they both share the same "internal architecture design". Too sad for the first revisions's owners (2.0, 2.1, 2.2) who can't take advantage of the last and trully encanced (FD) BIOS.....

As I have mentioned before in another thread, I had ordered through an eshop -specifically- "rev.3.0", but all I got was a "rev.2.1" due to lack of stock. I feel kinda strange and for sure angry for this "artificial" unavailability of newer revisions. I will consider an RMA...

Hi 1600,

A piece of information that I have just been given by Gigabyte is that those of us with older rev 1 and 2 boards is:
"it can be done by BIOS by request only (we will need to remove some other functions to get some space for AM3+ support code)." so it seems as if we will be able to run the new processors, on existing boards with limited functionality (as do those with Rev 3.0 boards)  but will have to ask Gigabyte, through tech support, to write a specific BIOS for us.

This is primarily due to the size of BIOS chips on earlier revisions and you may lose support for other processors etc., to allow you to run with an AM3+ CPU.

Thanx a lot for your concern and your trully remarkable and immediate support, in our "problems".

Fact is, that I have a few bugs to deal with my -finally- installed GA-870-UD3 "rev.2.1" and I can't stop thinking that if I had got my initial order (rev.3.0), I would be "glitch free" and my setup should run more flawlessly due to the upgraded BIOS. I can't stop thinking of it...

Was at computer fair last saturday, they havent even heard of black socket am3+, god i was laughin :D fairs used to be good, now utter sh**. Anyhow, if you guys want 3.0 revision of this board, lambdatek has them, i ordered 3.1 as they advertised and thats what came, still was pissed off becouse i want 3.1. Also, ballicom contactin gigabyte to find out if they can get rev 3.1's, and finally, overclockers have no stock for those boards, so i emailed them to ask if they gonna aproach giga about this, still no reply.

ALSO, i uppd my rig not long ago, got ocz ssd and phenom II x6, ssd is not a big loss, but x6 seems to be. Only good thing is bulldozers will cost quiet a bit i recon, so am gonna stick with x6 for now, or re-sell and consider x8, perfectly honest, dont see the need, 4-8gig ddr3 ram, ssd, 6950 2gig, and x6 should be good enough for anything

My information is they should start shipping around the end of May. However, they might take a little longer than that to actually hit the shelves as there is still no confirmed release date for the new AM3+ Processors.
